Iowa is retail politics because of their caucus system.

DeSantis needs national ID recognition for a general election. How he can get that, I'm not sure. Going on Tucker on X is out, obviously.

That debate with Newsom garned nearly 6 million viewers but can we really tell which voters that reached?

Out of the box thinking: Target another Dem governor for a debate. Ask Elon to moderate it on X. Challenge Whitmer, Hochul, Katie Hobbs, Pritzker (IL), Murphy (NJ) and the like.

I really find that debates between red and blur state governors really draw the stark comparisons between governing philosophies.

An Elon endorsement wouldn't hurt. If you look at Haley, Vivek, and Trump, all of them have attacked Elon's business. Trump craps on electric cars every chance he gets, Haley wanted to make the internet non anonymous, and Vivek says climate change isn't real.

Elon will not endorse anybody in the primary, is my assessment. But he could moderate a debate.

Or Bill Maher? Maybe Jake Tapper? The more I think about it, DeSantis needs to change something up. A nationwide challenge to any sitting Dem Gov to debate the differences in their governing styles and results would get him some airplay and maybe more traction.

Hawk,
My humble opinion,

DeSantis miscalculated due to bad advice BUT he acted on that advice. He didn't get any kind of bump from the debate.

Newsom is extremely popular with the left and everyone knows Biden has mental issues yet he knows to hold his place even with Biden low approval rating. Huge points made by him with his party.

So, when this shirt show of Desantis ends, does he support Trump or Haley, that should be the question. Strange bedfellows but so was the guy and his VP that used the term voodoo economics during their battles.

In the end, I still think Haley teams with Trump and most Republicans will come around.

Can DeSantis do a halftime performance? LOL.

I have nothing against DeSantis except I'm worried he's the 2024 version of Scott Walker. Just can't gain any traction.

Instead the gap WIDENS! How can that happen?

Gap? Where?

Let me guess...in the tard fodder known as "polls"?
Yes...all those polls that were taken and put out since Thursday night!!! There are dozens of them. DOZENS!!!!
Waiting for Morning Consult and Emerson to say Trump is up 50 billion.

It's all about Iowa in a little over 40 days, anyone who says otherwise doesn't understand the game. National polling means nothing whatsoever because most people won't be voting until months after the Primaries get going.

Uh, it was a Freaking NFL game. Of course they did.

5 million people did watch it though and the real question is how many among that 5 million are in the 200k or so max that will vote in Iowa.

He wins Iowa then people realize he is legit. Then New Hampshire becomes big. Cruz gave Trump a hell of a scare mainly off of Iowa and he doesn't have the funding or organization of DeSantis.

No other Dem is going to debate him after that humiliation of Newsom.

Walker probably started off with more national name recognition than DeSantis did considering how much Walker was in the national news for a few years before. When he just disappeared from the polls, I was surprised.

Walker didn't do well in debates and certainly couldn't have pulled off something like DeSantis did with Newsom. He was popular for winning a couple of tight races in Wisconsin but he just wasn't impressive.

This cycle has been weird because there is such an obsession with allowing Trump to be crowned without actually vetting him. I mean just today he said his Faith is based on Polling, he looked like a sweaty mess on TV, and he said he didn't need more votes, and sent out a picture of Laura Loomer thanking her. Yet his supporters don't seem to care and are under the illusion that the media won't notice once he has the nomination.

At the same time they are literally just making stuff up about DeSantis and talking about feels.

If we choose Trump we deserve what we get.

I hope you are right, I just doubt it. Honestly I didn't even think DeSantis was at his best and it was a complete destruction.

There is no way Newsom is the candidate now and his national brand took a massive hit.

Mystery to me. almost everyone I am close to is a conservative and maybe 2 out of 50 are Trump backers. Most people I know think he is a man-child moron with his goofy nicknames and refusal to debate or talk policy.

I dont get these numbers the MSM is reporting in their polls. I bet here on Texags only 30% back Trump.

Given I haven't trusted the MSM in 3 decades, I'll wait for actual voting before drawing any conclusions.

Come around to what, another election loss or a wall of litigation, the man-child wont resume the office.

Trump is the best thing to ever happen to the democrats. I'm amazed people cant see this.

It's just the easy, default choice for the tiny percentage of voters who are actually answering polls right now. If DeSantis can win Iowa thanks to the well organized ground game he's been putting in place and remove the air of inevitability around Trump it completely changes the race in my opinion.

Even the most diehard Trumpers on here can't actually provide a reason that they are still supporting him, which is why they only troll and talk about how far ahead he is. I think there are a ton of people who aren't still stuck in the cult and are just looking for a realistic alternative, which can hopefully happen after they see someone else win Iowa.

Same reason Biden is supported by the Democrats. Biden has been a trainwreck yet behind the closed doors the left leaders knows the masses continue to prop him up.

Same with Trump, remember he got over 74,000,000 votes in 2020. Like it or not, he will decide who the next President will be. He is not dropping out and a minimum of 30,000,000 will vote for him no matter what.

Our Texas governor knows this and doing the sensible thing by endorsing him.

Don't shoot me, I am just stating the obvious although I will admit it is entertaining, more so than 2016 when it was mostly libs hating on him.

The chief super PAC supporting Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis, Never Back Down, has fired its interim chief executive officer after less than two weeks.

It was the latest in a series of shake-ups as tumult has continued to disrupt the super PAC for weeks.
Quote:

Never Back Down fired Kristin Davison on Friday for unspecified "management and personnel issues" just nine days after she replaced Chris Jankowski as CEO, according to two people familiar with the decision. The super PAC named Scott Wagner, a longtime DeSantis ally, as interim CEO, according to an internal email sent Saturday night. Wagner is also replacing former Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt as board chairman.

Jankowski left on Nov. 22; Laxalt resigned four days later. Davison's firing came five days after that, and Erin Perrine, a Never Back Down spokesperson, was also fired, according to a person familiar with the matter. Her departure was first reported by Semafor.

And others have also split with the super PAC in recent days, said the two people, who were granted anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss personnel changes. It was not immediately clear how widespread the other departures were.
Quote:

The continued shake-ups come amid widespread infighting inside the super PAC and ongoing conflict with the Florida governor's campaign. Last week, NBC News reported on a near-physical altercation between Wagner and top Never Back Down strategist Jeff Roe.

The DeSantis campaign believes Never Back Down's TV ads have been ineffective, those close to the governor say, and campaign manager James Uthmeier this week issued a memo implicitly suggesting the group instead focus on waging a get-out-the vote program.

Like in '16, there are way too many candidates.

If everyone but Haley and DeSantis dropped out, they'd get the remaining numbers, and when one of them dropped out, one would get the rest. When it comes down to only two options, and maga only makes up about 35% of the voters on the right, there's not much reason for someone not to beat Trump; voters just need not have more options. The more options there are will always give someone with a solid lock on even a small minority the edge.

Contrary to what many, even in the media, think, maga is not anywhere near the majority of the country or even the Republican Party, but they hold on for dear life to Trump, and that's a political strength.

Trump was nowhere near the front-runner in '16, and yet he still won. Human nature would have assured Jeb get the nomination, yet he didn't because Trump had a lock on a small, but solid percentage. The right loved W while he was in office, and what better than to have another Bush in office? Answer: Someone who wasn't anywhere near the top of the polls for a good amount of time yet kept his base locked until it was too late for the rest to do anything about it.

MAGA repeats it over and over and over.

It is just another MAGA lie that they have to bring up because they have nothing else.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. Yep. It was Trump vs Not Trump throughout the 2016 election. Only Not Trump was split 15 ways, so Trump always had more supporters than each sliver of Not Trump.

This won him primary after primary with slim margins until enough candidates had dropped out, but by then he had it essentially sewn up.

This election started out that way, but at least now, most of the Not Trump splitters are gone (the ones left that are not named Ron, Nikki, or Vivek don't count).

I think by the Iowa caucus, it will EFFECTIVELY be just Trump vs Not Trump (Ron, Nikki). I say effectively, since Vivek has his own money to keep going but I think he's getting towards the end of any real support going forward.

Then it will be interesting...if DeSantis or Haley win any of Iowa/NH/SC, even splitting them, that will change the entire dynamic of the race.

I agree that Trump has his SOLID 25-30% locked in base. But, then there's probably 25-30% that is NEVER Trump. The rest is up for grabs.
