we are supposed to like career politicians more than johnny-come-lately's

Define "career" politicians.... if a guy like DeSantis was elected he'd be out of politics by 54. Compare that to Trump at 82 and being involved for 13 years... why is one "career" and the other not? Because he got involved younger?

And I forget that Trump actually ran previously in 2000 and tiptoed around it a bit in 2012.... so he has been somewhat involved for 28 years if elected. And yet considered "anti-establishment" by most because it was never his source of income.

Trump has also defended his picture at the Clinton's wedding by saying he had to work with the Clintons to get real estate deals done in New York. So even Trump admits he has been working within the establishment for decades.

Trump has brought a full Jerry Springer experience to politics, and unfortunately there are still a ton of morons in this country (and on this board) who like that type of entertainment and are now excited to be able to see it in politics too. They'll laugh at the jr. high level insults without realizing they are single-handedly handing all three branches of the government to the left in '24.

I still have hope they just represent a very small but vocal online minority of both complete idiots and shameless grifters like Poso and Kari Lake and the primaries surprise us, but who knows.

some just want the entire system to collapse
I'm perfectly fine with this scenario. Just not sure how support of Trump follows from wanting the horrific system to fail.

Solid ad by DeSantis here. Hits on Biden and 3 solid W's and no mention of Trump.

Reform Party in 2000. Ventura went nutso and the Party was warring with itself. Trump qualified for two primaries but dropped out in February of 2000. Pat Buchanan was the eventual nominee. Other than universal healthcare, which was part of the Party's platform, he was for fair trade deals and eliminating the national debt.

As part of eliminating the debt, IIRC. Please correct me if I am mistaken.

Great ad, for the general.

I hope he does one to show why people shouldn't vote for anyone else, including Trump, in the primary.

Have to mix them up and show different sides. Trump and Haley are also spending huge on new attack ads on him so running a positive ad that doesn't mention them is a good strategy. It essentially makes all the ads about you.

Latest lie coming from the Trump camp is that DeSantis is being told to drop out by his team, but is refusing to do so because he is hoping something "external" happens to Trump.

Apparently the RNC, which means Ronna, is considering canceling any future debates, which is exactly what Trump wants.

Just curious where you're hearing that from.

And if they do then it definitely means the fix is in for Trump.

I don't remember where but I read the next debate is the last.

Traditionally, there have been debates in IA, NH, and SC before the caucus/primary.

The RNC threatened them with no access to future RNC debates if they did a non-sanctioned debate like the one Christie and Vivek were planning on Fox. If there's no future debates, DeSantis and Haley are free to do a 1 on 1 debate since there'd be no repercussions or a state GOP debate.

I'd like to think the IA GOP and NH GOP would step up and hold a local GOP debate if the RNC capitulated to Trump.

Trump and Haley are spending $1.5M in ads opposing DeSantis. DeSantis is rolling out his ad campaign earlier than the planned $2M buy. Never Back Down is dropping $4M+against Haley. Should be interesting.

The Establishment fears Trump so much they are doing everything they can to get him the nomination. What's next? Super Delegates?

Iowa Poll

There was an interesting chart in the middle of this page. It shows how DeSantis is getting known positively in Iowa. This is the chart headline: The same percentages of likely Republican caucusgoers are considering Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump.

Trump does have stronger 1st support. But it does show the potential path of success for DeSantis in this primary. First poll i saw that really supported that.

DeSantis has maintained extremely high favorables in spite of all the attacks. Most people like him even if they prefer Trump or others. He's got very few folks that hate him in the GOP. He also has a lot of crossover potential because he comes across as a serious guy focused on the job. You really have to work at it to hate him.

That's why he would be so effective in a General. In the end it often comes down to who you hate less instead of who you like more for the last 10%.

For Iowa it is interesting because of the Caucus system. People actually meet and vote and can change their minds. Make no mistake, Trump still is likely the choice. It's just not over yet.

One line from that response says it all and characterizes Donald Trump to a "T"...

"Donald Trump doesn't want accountability."

Bingo.

DeSantis is still the only one talking about Covid accountability and reforming the CDC and NIH in any serious way.
