Age Comparison in 2024:
Biden: 81
Trump: 77
DeSantis: 45

Military Service:
Biden: No
Trump: No
DeSantis: United States Navy (Iraq War, Bronze Star)

Personality Most Reminds You Of:
Biden: Professional Politician with Dementia
Trump: Extreme Narcissist Gas-Lighter
DeSantis: Professional Politician

Political Party:
Biden: Democrat
Trump: Trump
DeSantis: Republican

Just going off the four basic factors above, isn't there a pretty obvious choice?

Personally, I don't need much more to think about. Going DeSantis with my vote.

Let's @#$#@$ GOOOOOO!!!

DeSantis to declare on Twitter is a pretty boss move:

gives publicity from the 140 million Musk followers

Upstages Trump for the day

gives access to some of the Musk money and talent in his organization

aligns Ron D with high tech and destroying censorship of conservatives

a new youthful way of engaging the public

"Fergus Cullen is wary of Ron DeSantis' conflict with Disney, dislikes how the governor once used his kids in a campaign ad, and doubts he'd support the Florida Republican's presidential candidacy if it were any other election.

And yet Cullen, the former chairman of the New Hampshire GOP and an avowed member of the "Never Trump" movement, is still open to the Florida Republican's White House bid almost exclusively because of his deep dislike of former President Donald Trump.

"We've got a dilemma on our hands, and I'm trying to be pragmatic here," Cullen said. "Trump is an existential threat not only to the country, but to the Republican Party's prospects to be competitive. And I would accept anyone as a preferable nominee." Cullen isn't the only leading anti-Trump Republican who is begrudgingly arriving at that conclusion.

As DeSantis prepares to enter the presidential race this week, a small but influential contingent of Republicans is grappling with a strategic dilemma, stuck choosing between a candidate in Trump many of them consider a clear and present danger to the republic and an alternative in DeSantis they worry would solidify possibly even intensify the GOP's turn to anti-democratic demagoguery.

DeSantis will win back the Never Trumpers

To me the choice is simple. DeSantis spends all of his time talking about how to better the future of the US.

Trump spends all of his time lying and attacking DeSantis from the left.
Great point

unfortunately, the Trump voters are the last people who would ever know this. They are the least educated and least informed part of the GOP.

so we have to find another way to reach them.

I think going with the "do you want to actually win the general election or just watch the country burn" approach may be effective.

What is someone supposed to think you meant this post:

"Who has taken better care of their base historically?"

Given the context of this discussion, seems pretty obvious

Correct..but I'm discussing Trump and what he did, not a party. Trump was the best in my lifetime at doing what he said he was going to do. That is "serving the base" in my opinion.

clearly if Trump wins the nomination then you are correct- a plurality of those voting in the GOP primary would prefer to "stick it to the man" than actually save the Republic by nominating someone who can win.

I would highly recommend everyone watch at least some of the John Stossel interview posted on the page above!

listening to Ron DeSantis field questions and be able to masterfully answer them with facts, logic, actual policies, actual legislative nomenclature is very refreshing.

there is no way that Trump would EVER be able to discuss "the relative benefits of discretionary versus mandatory spending bills in the appropriations process of Congress and setting a baseline budget for agencies"

He'd start calling the reporter fake news as soon as those kinds of subjects were broached. Then he'd post on truth social how he started Stossel's career for him and that he's nothing without him.

I'm leaning more and more towards Trump deciding to skip the debates, telling his acolytes the debates are rigged and don't matter anyway because he's up 2,000 percentage points in the only polls that matter.

And I'm fine with that. He'll be alienating himself to everyone besides his shrinking base.

At this point I can't imagine him going to the debates at all. He'd look like such a lightweight compared to the actual adult candidates on the stage. He'll just keep doing rallies with the same few thousand of his remaining lemmings in each city, probably long after he hopefully loses the first few primary states.

those are some very good takes about Trump skipping the debates.

on the other hand, usually candidates who skip debates are not going to be victorious.

even literal stroke victim Senator Lurch from Pennsylvania showed up to debate Trump's pick Dr. Oz!

It gives Trump short term protection from being exposed as a lightweight on policy

on the other hand, "out of sight out of mind" and not having him there would allow the other candidates to not have to worry about being blasted as "horse face" or "ugly"

Trump is already saying that the republican party needs to get his approval about debates, he thinks he is above going because his poll numbers are so good.

To me, the choice is simple. 100% of Trump supporters would vote for DeSantis in the general. The converse of that is not true.
The reason that this is wrong is that Trump has/had a lot of supporters who are NOT movement conservatives.

Trump was able to beat Hillary because he got quite a few of Romney's "missing white voters" in the Rust Belt to turn out and vote for him. A lot of these people are frustrated and have a very low opinion of "typical politicians", and it's not a coincidence that areas where Ross Perot overperformed look a lot like areas where Trump overperformed in 2016.

I think it is an open question as to how many of these voters could be convinced that DeSantis is truly "on their side", rather than just telling them what they want to hear.

From John Stossel:

"For 44 minutes, DeSantis and I talk about: how America will go broke, whether he'd cut social security or raise retirement age, what departments he'd cut if he were president, the drug war, his opposition to Barack Obama's plan to send Americans to Syria, Donald Trump and whether DeSantis is a "slob who eats pudding with his fingers."

I don't think his staff liked some of my questions. They cut our interview short, saying the governor had to go.

You can watch it all at JohnStossel.com

I like some things DeSantis says and does.

I also worry that he's an authoritarian.

In any case, he's definitely smarter and better than both Trump and Biden."

Trump influencer Loomer sure is a class act. DeSantis sister died while studying abroad from an embolism and she is somehow trying to find controversy about it. If you saw DeSantis talk about his sister in the Piers interview you would see just how disgusting this is.

I keep seeing comments from Trump's twitter army about RD being a RINO and GOP secret plant.

What actions has he ever taken to actually suggest this? It's the best-kept secret of all time in politics then.

NOBODY from the Trump campaign has produced anything to suggest RD would be a RINO. When any Trump bot gets asked to provide any sign of it, they disappear every time. It's stunning to see how many actually respond positively to Loomer.

Trump keeps hitting him on disloyalty. I mean, really? I wonder what his wives think of that comment? I don't care if the nominee has Trump's flaws, but that's just hypocrisy.

Edited to give an example. The replies to this are hilarious:

Pathetic. Acting like Trump was the conservative when DeSantis was pushing for more conservative bills that Trump opposed. This is incredibly deceptive. I mean just saying that anyone favoring the Flat Tax and ELIMINATING THE IRS is not the real conservative. Voted against the other bills because they didn't go far enough. Apparently SS and Medicare as sacred cows is also a conservative measure and anyone pushing for reform is a "Swamp Creature". Oh and the "Wall" bill had freaking Amnesty as a part of it and that is why DeSantis opposed it unlike Trump.

The only way this stuff works is if people don't take 2 seconds to hear how much Trump is being deceitful. These are good litmus tests to see if a Trump supporter has any level of critical thinking if they buy this crap.
