I've talked almost nonstop about 2020. The reason I talked about '16 in that thread is the specific question was about '15 and '16.

2020 was three years ago. It's over. There was fraud, just enough...in the right areas...to win the EC. That's over and done with and was possible because he's so unlikable.

This is for 2024 and he's done NOTHING to reverse the same thing from happening again. Yet Desantis has, and won, thusly. An actual conservative, that wins, and leads. The opposite of Trump.
DeSantis
1. Got a law passed in a local state with the support of the republicans that made up the majority
2. A president can't do that. Elections are controlled locally.

So, even if you believe DeSantis was the key in getting fair eledctions in Florida. he constitutionally can't do that at a federal level.
He got those laws passed because he built up a GOTV infrastructure and took out all the measures that helped Dems. He also pushed the limits on redistricting and won. In short he is a very, very effective guy at doing the actual job of government. Is DC a different game? Absolutely, but he has 6 years of experience there as well and he has some strong allies. He's no babe in the woods and he and Ted Cruz are probably the best legal minds in the GOP.

So you are saying that Trump can't fix it either? So why would we vote for him? I thought that was part of it. If Trump lost in 2020 because of the ground game and he literally can't do anything about it, what's the point? Sell me on this.

Trump himself just isn't funny anymore either, he's just angry.
Selective posts from his Truth Social thing are what are being focused on. Very few are getting every post he makes there. Many don't hear his public events as they are not covered.

When he's on the national media stage bringing his case is when he's very effective. I would suspect over half of his supporters don't even have Truth Social. I don't.

Winning the nomination will bring him out to the entire public. I just don't think he has the money to run a public blitz starting right now. So the selective quotes here and there from Truth Social is all we are getting.
I'm not talking about selective quotes. Go watch his Waco or South Carolina rally and then go watch one of his rallies at the end of the '20 campaign. Completely different energy and feel. There are sparks that are the same but not the positive and fun energy. Trump is definitely still a force and he will ALWAYS have loyal supporters but the "magic" is more about catching glimpses vs the way he just oozed it before. It's just not the party it used to be. If anything the Trump folks are desperately trying to find little snippets that look like the old days they can magnify.

It's like going back to see a Rock band you saw when you were younger again now that they are old. Still fun but more nostalgic than anything.

Sure you can, it just takes a LOT of work and someone who understands how to operate the levers of power and work legislatively. Essentially operate the same way the Democrats do. That's why they fear DeSantis, he understands the game as well as anyone. He is extremely focused and organized and he has the intellectual capacity to understand the legal and political aspects. Will he win on everything? No, but he will win and win on more than you expect.

Trump has no patience for any of that. He wants to make a bold statement and turn it over to someone else to handle the details. He also sucks at hiring people to get things done. Thus he is easy prey for the Swamp, the Dems, and the RINOs. He also gets distracted easily, makes regular own goals, and will throw out compromises that piss off conservatives so he ends up with nothing (like on guns and the Wall).

Legislating and governing is extremely difficult work. That's the whole point on DeSantis, he is really, really good at the execution.

Posted on another thread, but here are the latest polls in the swing states comparing DeSantis vs. Biden and Trump vs. Biden.

Arizona Ron +6 Don -2 (11)
Georgia Ron +3 Don -2 (16)
Michigan Ron +1 Don 0 (15)
Nevada Ron +2 Don -4 (6)
Pennsylvania Ron +3 Don -3 (19)
Wisconsin Ron -2 Don -9 (10)

That's a 52 electoral vote difference not counting Michigan or Wisconsin.

notice how the trumpers and Trumpbots will never engage in this thread

but simply create their own "look at me" post for whichever individual poll they like best on that day (of course all of them still have Trump losing to Biden)

By Alec Hernndez

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday he would not be former President Donald Trump's running mate if given the opportunity to join him on the ticket.

"I don't think so. I'm not a No. 2 guy," DeSantis said on the "Wisconsin Right Now" radio show, saying he would rather stay on as governor because the vice presidency "doesn't really have any authority."

Asked about his own thoughts on a running mate, DeSantis said, "It's a little bit presumptuous to be doing that at this stage."

"I'm here to win the early primaries, and that's what we've got to do first," he added.

DeSantis has been sharpening his criticisms of Trump. On the "Mark Belling Show" on Tuesday, he took a swing at both Trump and President Joe Biden over their ability to win over suburban women, who he argued not only "disapprove of Biden, I think they also unfortunately disapprove very strongly of Donald Trump."

DeSantis went on to liken Floridians to the national electorate, calling his home state a "microcosm of the United States" where candidates have to appeal to a wide variety of voters to win statewide office. DeSantis won re-election last year by a double-digit margin.

Reached for comment, a Trump campaign spokesperson was dismissive of DeSantis' remarks.

"Ron DeSantis isn't anybody's guy. He's not 'the guy.' He's just 'a guy.' Ron is just there, sullen and sad, because his numbers are as tiny as him," Steven Cheung said. (and I bet DeSantis could whip whoever the hell lackey Steven Cheung is)

DeSantis also said Tuesday he would support the eventual GOP nominee, even if it's Trump.

replaced by the 14 year old cohort who were literally in the streets of DC marching against him during his inauguration.

the youngest people who will be voting for the first time hate Trump the most out of any segment of the population. and of course there are the republicans and independents who voted Trump in 2020 who will never support him again.

Cult45 doesn't care. All they want to do is win the primary and destroy DeSantis for one final "winning" because when they lose, and they know Trump will, they will blame it on fraud and claim Trump actually won.

Then they'll prepare for Trump Jr./Loomer 2028 while Trump Sr. rots in prison.

While there is some truth to that, that is still only a small and VERY vocal minority of Trump supporters. Don't get sucked in. When the rubber meets the road most people want to win or have the best chance of winning. If Trump is somehow able to make that case he will win the nomination. I think as we get closer to that final decision time though a lot of folks will shift. That's typical of what happens in these cycles.

The problem is at this point it is very hard to see that. The reality is right now it's a small group of folks on either side making the noise and most people barely paying attention. That will change but not for some time.

Maybe that's just one of the finer Arts of the Deal...completely acquiesce to your opponents and give them the weapon to destroy you. Trump is the master deal maker after all. We probably just don't understand the genius move Trump made by not doing any of his own homework and relying completely on others, including his opponents, to tell him what to do.
