From the press conference this afternoon:Mayor spoke first.
Three of the first police officers to arrive on scene had been at lunch and had no body armor.
One police officer and one state trooper were injured. Both have been released from the hospital.
Nothing else of note.
The FBI Goomba said nothing of value.
From the San Juan County Sheriff:
The sheriff's office will conduct the officer involve shooting investigation as required by law.
Officers fired a total of 16 rounds at the perp.
From Farmington PD:Beau Wilson, 18 year old male, was the shooter. Student at Farmington High School.
Had three firearms, one being an AR-15/"assault style" rifle. One of the guns was legally purchased in November 2022 (did not say which one) and they're looking to see how he acquired the other two.
Suspect randomly shot at at least 6 houses and three vehicles. No evidence he was targeting anything or anyone.
Police dispatched at 10:57AM, arrived at 11:02AM, and encountered the suspect at 11:06AM and gunfire was exchanged during which both officers were hit and the shooter was killed.
Only Farmington PD fire shots.
All three victims were female.
The injured FPD officer was also female; she is one of the officers who returned fire at the perp.
The state trooper was hit while still in his vehicle.
Four civilians were treated at the hospital, the rest were treated at the scene.
From the Q&A:Asked why they believe it was random.
Answer is they can find no connection between the suspect and the victims. No connections between the victims except two were in the same vehicle (see more info below). Perp was just shooting at anything he felt like shooting at.
Next question is how he got the guns.
Turned 18 in October, bought the gun in November.
The other guns came from a relative. How he got possession was not stated so possibly took them without permission or they were given to him. Criminal charges are possible depending on how he got them.
Also he "lived" in the area, but had multiple known addresses in town.
Next question, was he on the police radar and did he leave anything behind?
He had a juvenile record, but no major crimes.
He did not leave anything behind that they have found so far.
Family had concerns about his mental health, but so far nothing to say he was diagnosed with any kind of mental problems.
The officer made it clear that just having a concern about someone is not grounds enough to deny someone's right to own a gun.
How many rounds were fired?
At least 150 confirmed so far, including the 16 shots by the police.
Caught by a Ring doorbell, but video won't be released at this time since the investigation is still open.
Question, ages of the deceased?
Two in their 70s, one in her 90s. The two who died in the same car were mother and daughter. He was pretty much focused on cars driving by.
Other questions were nothing of note, some about anti-gun laws which are being debated in the legislature, but not yet passed.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill
