On the right is a description family history of my 5th Great Grandfather, James Walkingstick his son Benjamin "Chief Walkingstick" who is my 4th great grandfather on my mothers side. Chief Walkingstick is a full blooded Cherokee Indian, or Native American.
There is an amazing story about how my Cherokee ancestor defied an order by the United States government to leave their villages in East Tennessee & Western North Carolina and to walk the Trail of Tears. Instead, Walkingstick hid in the mountains with about 100 other Native American Indians and fought the U.S. government. Eventually, they found success in their resistance campaign and went on to establish what is now the Cherokee Nation in North Carolina, just over the mountain from Gatlinburg Tennessee.
I have linked the article detailing this historic time in my family's history. I am honored to carry on the family heritage of being a Native American person of color and am even more thankful that these records detailing my family history have been preserved.

My brother has twin boys whose estranged mom (who hasn't come to see them in 8 or 9 years) is half Mexican.
They are playing up that 1/4 Mexican thing for all that it is worth on college application/scholarship forms.
I don't blame them one bit. Their bio mom is a complete piece of crap and has obviously done nothing for them, at least she may be able to bring this to the table. They are both blonde, but tan well, lol.

My wife is Hispanic so my boys are half. They don't look it at all. We will definitely be checking that box.
But I do wonder….do colleges even check? Could I have just checked AA and basically got auto acceptance when I applied and schools wouldn't even know?
