The same way Trump getting the same people to get people to show up at a rally even those events are getting less frequent and the people are more and more the same. Trump has a very loyal following, no one questions that. The problem is it is nowhere close to enough to win a General election and when he does stuff like this it is a HUGE turnoff to people that might otherwise be convinced to vote for him.

Almost makes you wonder if his goal this go round isn't actually winning.

To answer your question. Politicians accept speaking fees and sell books all the time for personal gain.

The only reason I even responded to this thread was because of the person who claimed Trump did this for himself but DeSantis has great merchandise for a campaign. I can't stand the illogical positions people take against all facts to slam one guy and lift another.

Trump made personal money from people who wanted to give it to him. Great!

DeSantis has merchandise to make money. Great!

Same goes for those who bring up foreign money. Foreign interests have no problem contributing to ANY campaign in America. They just donate to a non profit to wash the funds. Citizens United opened the flood gates for dark money. Not sure I like the reverse of that case either. Should non profits have to disclose donors to take a position on a political issue? We just have to realize all politicians in the US get global money. Only way to prevent it that is to make all non profit contributions open records and disallow any with foreign contributions
