What's to be done here? Every few months/years there's commotion around this and the stock market crashes and comes back after "Congress agrees on raising the debt ceiling".

How to get rid if this problem? Why not quit the charade and auto-increase it forever (who cares anyway).

You're talking about the budget, not the debt ceiling.
They're synonymous. If you don't cut spending they continue to run a deficit which requires raising of the debt ceiling again in the future.

I get what you are saying but neither party is interested in lowering spending. If you believe they are, you are naive at best and fool at worst. That isn't directly aimed at you.

I'd love to see this fight fought… but history leaves me jaded. IF the GOP mounts a "resistance" it be ineffectual, any "shutdown" will be bureaucrats being gifted a free vacation, and the ceiling increase will conjoin with an omnibus that's more pork laden it than what preceded it.

People who would not get paid:
People getting Social Security
Hospitals ( huge chunk of their business is medicare)
US treasury debt holders
All military personnel
All military contractors

This is NOT gift shop employees at the Smithsonian getting sent home because the museum is closed

This might be a move to force the Biden Administration into monetizing the debt using the TRILLION DOLLAR Platinum coin
