Of course releasing this information is bad. But what did everyone expect to happen? This is what happens when you weaponize government organizations against other Americans. Eventually somebody goes too far in their vendetta against the other side because they think the other party is more the enemy than our foreign adversaries.

Of course there is no proof this is the case yet, but that's where I would put my money.

This is all by design. Every one of our institutions is being torn down.

And moves like this do more to alienate our allies and drive them towards others (Russia, China).

This kind of thing isn't that threatening to national security. Foreign intelligence agencies essentially have to assume its being thrown out there on purpose. Maybe it's further confirmation of something they already knew but they can't treat it as reliable new info

I can also all but guarantee if this was particularly useful info, the leaker would've sold it to China for millions instead of just letting it go viral

I think there's at least 3 possibilities - two likely, one not-so-much.

Option 1.
Espionage. At best, some sort of SIGINT hack that obtained the documents; or, we have infiltration of someone into high levels of DOD that was a mole.

I think this option is likely, with the concern being that the primary hiring metric in DOD is now DEI related over the ability to protect sensitive information. Say the right thing to the right people... Voila! You're hired.

Option 2.
Likely someone on the left that has been indoctrinated that the Rules for Radicals is fair game, and at the end of the day, left v. right wasn't their driving factor. This was personal.

Option 3.
In fairness to Manhattan, I'll concede that this could be someone within DOD on the right playing the turnabout-is-fair-game tactic against the Biden DOD. Though possible, I believe this is least likely, because most on the right realize that there is really no need to undermine the US Military and US standing in the world - simply because we know the current administration is doing a very effective job of that on their own. They really don't need help.
