The only reason the left came together after 9/11 was because it was politically dangerous not to. For most of them it was a temporary lip service. It didn't take them long to turn and go back to their old ways and start attacking the Republican President with a vengeance. In the end, they do what they always do. Sieze opportunity from crisis, and the Republicans fell right in line when they passed the Patriot Act. Since that time it has gotten infinitely worse.

There can be no coming together given the Grand Canyon scale divide on every single major issue. One side will have to prevail, or there will be agreement to separate. Until one of those things happen, it will be an all out battle, and the only Republican I see actually willing to fight that has a proven record of winning is DeSantis.

The only thing mitigating this is that modern liberals are hellbent on eliminating themselves from the gene pool by any means necessary. Even the average white liberal atheist couple has significantly fewer children than the average white conservative family.
