i took my hardship license test in 1976 when i was 15 in a 71 ford manual steering and 3 on the tree. you took your test with a DPS officer. you had to parallel park as well. when finished, he said you have obviously driven before. started driving farm truck a 61 ford when i was old enough to hold steering wheel. was pulling loaded cattle trailers down hwy6 when i was 12. Canyon i'm sure your history is about the same

Got my hardship at 15 as well.

That means we're old!

Do they not do that anymore?

My parents wouldn't let me get mine early. I think had they known what they knew 6 months before I started driving what they knew that long AFTER I started, they would have.

I tried for my hardship license at 15, because I was already driving all the time on the farm. Judge asked dad what I would do if I didn't get it. Dad said that he needed my help, and I would drive, anyway.

Must have pissed the judge off, because I was refused.

Meanwhile, a female classmate got hers because she "had to drive her siblings to school". They lived 10 blocks from the school and one block from a bus stop. But maybe her daddy was friends with the judge. Or, as dad suspected, slipped the judge a bottle of booze.

BTW, this was insult to injury, because my three years older brother got his license at 14, then the state changed the minimum to 16 before I got there.

I still drove my own car all the time, including to school and to a nearby town to take driver's ed.

The car owner was at a gas station and got jacked, but the "teens" who jacked him couldn't drive a manual, so they took off. Cops caught them and they are shockingly being charged as adults and held without bond. In Maryland of all places.

If you really want to confuse them, get a non-synchronous transmission.

I'd be shocked to find even one carjacker that knew how to double clutch.

Trump will fix it.

Drove a manual in Australia a few years ago. It was something like a Toyota Supra…some model we don't have in the U.S. The combination of driving on the left side of the road, the steering wheel on the right side of the car, and the gear shift on my left side made for a fun but nerve-wracking experience. I came to a busy roundabout and that was all I could take.

A friend of mine got carjacked about 15 years ago and got put in his trunk by the theives. He had a manual and they couldn't figure it out and left him. He could hear them struggling with it.
