It's always good to reflect on the original purpose, or reason for the formation of the party you vote for.

Excerpts from article below:

"The Republican Party grew out of resistance to the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854, which overrode the Missouri Compromise and allowed slavery to spread into Western territory by popular sovereignty," writes PBS American Experience in its history of political parties in the United States.

"'Anti-Nebraska' men included anti-slavery Whigs, Democrats, Free Soilers, reformers, and abolitionists
Alvin Earle Bovay, an attorney and co-founder of Ripon College, was incensed by the passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act in the Senate in March and led a meeting at the town's Congregational Church. *note Ripon, Wisconsin.

"This group, considering possible passage of the Kansas-Nebraska bill then being debated in Congress, resolved that steps should be taken to form a new Republican Party to appeal to all those who opposed slavery in the territories," writes the Wisconsin Historical Society.

And yet the feckless GOP has allowed that to be turned around on them so they are universally associated with racism.

I'm not sure that they are anymore. That was a lie pushed through school curriculum that has been debunked.

I had textbooks as a kid that talked about a "party switch," however I don't recall any mention of when the switch occurred, why it occurred, who switched, what legislation may have contributed etc.

When we dig deeper and ask a simple question: "so you're telling me that one day all the robbers became cops, and all the cops became robbers?" The narrative begins to unravel. A look at voting records and legislation indicate the new deal was responsible for a shift in the black vote, however the racist southern democrats died as racist democrats. Their children switched to the republican party around the 80's-90's.

The fact that the democrat party embraced klan members well into theb 90's and 2000's is enough for me to see that they never changed. Ex: robert byrd.

Democrats are still the party of slavery. They traded the enslavement to individual masters for the enslavement to the dependency on government for the masses.

We have to stay on message --- it's ok to leave the plantation. Don't let Democrats promises of 'taking care of you' lead you to buying their lies. Frederick Douglas and Booker T Washington said you can be free. But more than that - you were born into a society where Republicans/Conservatives ended slavery and gave you the right to vote and pursue your dreams.

The current president when since being elected into the US Senate in the 1970's had as his mentor a fellow democrat who was a high ranking Klansman for the KKK!

And if you asked young people today and blacks, many of them would likely believe that the Republican Party was the party of slavery before the Civil War. Actual history has been twisted around by the modern left.

Hell, they're trying to cancel Lincoln now because he thought it would be good for former slaves to have their own colony outside of the United States.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill
