Their only strategy is to deflect by making the messenger seem like a hateful person.

It's worse than that. They actually CAN see that certain values, systems, cultures, and most of all, individual people can be better than others, and they are deathly afraid of the implications of that reality. They just won't admit it.

At the deep, dark, secret heart of every liberal is a great fear of their own inadequacy. So, they adopt the philosophy that tears down the idea of exceptionalism. Everything must be made equally poor so they can feel comfortable in their own weakness.

Western culture rewards exceptional people and ideas and that is anathema to their very being.
