Well done.

We did have a different life back then, didn't we?

The best part? They set up a roadblock to stop me after 9 miles, and I got away with it.

Not even a written warning, much less a ticket

Wasn't until the roadblock that the pursuing car got within a mile of me. It was an unmarked car with two tiny lights behind the grill

As an adult, I came to realize they had no case, as I had no way of knowing it was a cop. I had honked at what I thought was a couple "parkimg" next to a FM road about 1am, as I buzzed by at 80mph

They claimed they had been out watching for a drug shipment to come by. So anonymous drug dealer in 1974, you're welcome. I drew them off so you could make your run

Top fuel dragsters will do 0 to 300 mph in just over 3 seconds. Doesn't seem possible.

It is. Stock S plaids show up and ruin drag races. The videos on YouTube are funny to watch. Some asshat smokes his tires, revs his engine, lots of commotion and then the Tesla just proceeds to blow his doors off in almost total silence.

It has 396 miles of range.

Not if you're doing 0-60 in 2 seconds very often. Of course that hurts range in a gas powered ride as well.

I saw what happened to a vehicle and driver going 80+ on the beltway in Houston (mid afternoon) after slamming in the back of an 18 wheeler trailer today. Shaved the top part of the car right off.

Im a total gearhead, always have been. I rarely let a week go by without 140+

Even back when 140 took took a while (80's)

Now a stock car can hit 140 in not much more than a 1/4 mile.

My streetcar build got there in 1000 feet or less on 200tw street tires.

Hit 165 on the way to lunch last week, but generally keep that stuff on track these days. On track its not the speed, its the turn at the end of the straight

Hit 170 at road america, also on 200tw street tires. Nola 165. Lvms about 155,

I always really enjoyed taking passengers on track or autocross, it's so much better than roller coasters. Tv or watching does not do it justice.

Kids now have so little exposure to real things they really get an eye opener

120 -- at least twice. I-35 north (between Hillsboro and Dallas) mid-80s in a '76 Impala. Had to slow down after a few seconds because I didn't really trust that car going that fast. The second time I was in my 2013 Maxima. It could do 120 very easily, though I only pushed it that fast a time or two. I don't recall exactly when -- probably 2018 when we went out West. I'm sure I passed at 110-120 a bunch.

I've also done 110 in a Tahoe, though I preferred to keep that no higher than a hundred. Had it been just a little lower with road tires rather than the BFG off-road ones I had on it, 110 wouldn't have been a problem. Police use those, but I think the Tahoe police packages have extra weight in the lower sides for turning, side impacts, and (some) gunfire protection. Obviously, mine didn't have all that!

We got nailed by a statie on Highway 35 between Alvin and Angleton coming back from the Rose Hall. Not that fast, but there were 3 cars alternating lights off and we ended up all doing about 90 with no lights.

He lit us up and was not pleased, especially when he walked up and one of the guys in the car was passed the hell out and most of us were not sober and all under age
. I think he weighed how much paperwork would have been involved had he hauled us to county and said nope.

Told us he was going to follow us to 288 and we had better do 55. Not 55 - 1/2, but "fuggin 55". He wasnt lying either, followed us the 15 or so miles while we were puckered so bad you couldnt have pulled a banjo string out of our butthole with a D9 dozer.

I had to run against heavily modified teslas. Since we are all on 200tw tires they kill me off the line, but by about 250 feet im going around them. They put down power incredibly well. Awd. No ice pulses hitting the tires. But im still not interested. I never lost to them, and the real limits of their charging gets exposed quickly.

They have to charge every single second they are not competing, and still start dropping off in hot weather autocrosses, by the end of the day. and they cant make the road courses at all. Not even one lap. They drop off hard in about 2 minutes on an actual track.

Older brother had a '79 Camaro. But it only had a 305 and was an auto. Got it to a smidge over 105 a few times, but that was it for me. It could go faster, just never drove it enough to really open it up.

In HS
150+ as a passenger in a Mustang GT
~135 as driver in my Trans Am, I can't remember where the speedometer stopped (115 or 120) but it was pegged out and estimated speed from tachometer.
As an adult probably 110 or so. Typically drive as quick as I can to and from the ranch/coast and home. Saves 30-45 minutes per trip.
When my college son drives these trips, I keep finding myself asking him if he can drive faster

I tried like hell to get to 120, but 118 was all I could squeeze out of that 4-door '69 Impala I drove in high school. And it felt like it took all 3 lanes of I-40 to keep it on the freeway.

None of my rides after that have come close. All trucks.

Got up to 115 one time in high school. State trooper lights me up, I pull over as he turns around and before he comes up over the hill, park on the side of the road and when I did I turned the lights off. He flew right by me, I sat there for twenty minutes before I worked up the nerve to drive off.
