Apparently he had to only walk a block from the bar to the hotel and he didn't make it. I haven't heard if Baton Rouge has the lax bail policies of other cities, but I'll just assume they do.

This is a little close to home for me. I've walked back to my hotel after meeting business associates at night many times. Makes you think twice.

Holy **** - Way too close to home. I stayed in that exact same Courtyard Marriott back in October. Myself and a group of 4 others walked from there to Cecelia's Creole Bistro for dinner and walked back.

Yeah, that's really sad and you're right. That's a very short distance to walk. Many of us have done it many times.

Rolled up in a carpet, wrapped in plastic...

This wasn't a common thug who robbed and shot a random dude. He was a target and got murdered.

As a shameless plug, my cousin is running for District Court Criminal judge in Baton Rouge. She's committed to stopping this woke bail reform stuff.

Considering the debit card use, you don't think someone might have kidnapped him and forced his PIN out of him, killed him and disposed of the body in the carpet roll?

Could be but that's a lot of work for someone wanting $500-$1000 max out of an ATM. If it's professional work they would make it look like a classic robbery.

I dunno. A friend got jumped in NOLA for his phone and wallet, plus banking information. They didn't kill him, but threatened him with a gun - as soon as they got the info they took off. NO WAY in hell that those thugs were going to take his body, wrap it in a carpet, and then wrap it up in plastic to dispose of it.

They'd have shot him in the alley way they jumped him in.

I putting my money on something more serious than just a common robbery gone wrong. I'd think that whomever was paid to dispose of the body did a **** job of it or got caught - or the killer(s) got caught while trying to dispose of the body.

Maybe that's too much Hollywood and books - but stick 'em up Joe isn't going through this much trouble to dump a dudes body.

If this was more of a targeted "hit" then they probably had a lot of info on the guy and that might have included his PIN - leave his wallet with info in it where some rando criminal can find it.

Just doesn't add up to me.

Wow, at that pub 2 minutes from the hotel at 11:30, after going to the LSU basketball game. I don't think they even played Alabama that night so probably not related to sports, but sad.

Businessman didn't have the COMMON sense of situational awareness.

One block? C'mon, man.

The timeline from when he went missing to when he was found is the exact number of days of the Battle of the Alamo. Coincidence???

article i read said that he was 'cut off' at the bar for being drunk.

that might have played a role....went the wrong way, did not go straight back to the hotel etc.

An overdose. Well, I'm glad this wasn't some random thing. I wonder if his customer contact he was at the bar with was involved? I feel for his family.

What does that have to do with what I said?

Many of us have walked blocks like this before, by ourselves in the daytime or at night, and never thought anything about it. My only point was it's pretty damn scary to think that he was that close and this happened to him. Why would you even go to a question of an Uber?

My daughter left LSU, in large part, because of safety concerns.

It's quite unfortunate.

Wow, my team and I were at that pub on the 21st and stayed in the watermark right next door. I guess safety in numbers.

Safety in numbers?

From being forced to do drugs or what? Taking Fentanyl?

The overdose angle is super intriguing. I'd be interested in what other surveillance cameras he crossed here if he didn't make it back to hotel and wasn't shot in the alley.

The story of "Ho hum, he OD'd on meth and his dealer wrapped him in carpet" somehow right after the drinks at the pub doesn't check out for me.

I know of someone in Houston who went to the bar near his home, had one drink with work friends. They left and he stayed to have another drink and struck up a conversation with a couple other people at the bar. He never returned home and the police did nothing to help find him. His wife hired a private investigator who found his body in the back of a car at an apartment complex days later and it was determined he overdosed.

The thugs had been maxing out his credit cards and the only reason they located his body was through Nordstrom's security footage. They drugged him and either intended to kill him or accidentally gave him a lethal dose. Because the police could not prove he didn't take the drugs himself the only thing they could (or chose to) charge the thugs with credit card fraud and maybe some kind of failure to notify.

Thugs were right back on the street. The man lost his life over $20-$30k?? Apparently this was not the first time these thugs had done this and they have a wrap sheet a mile long. Didn't matter. He's dead and they are free to do it again.

Stay vigilant and be careful who you associate with - even if only for a drink or two.

Man. He just OD'd! Better wrap him in carpet and plastic and dump him in an alley. Sounds silly but who knows.

You left out the part about someone using his debit card after wrapping him on a carpet and dumping his body.

Horrible story and none of it makes sense. Accidental overdose, on what? Credit card stolen and used and body wrapped up and disposed of in a secluded area.

I know horrible things can happen anywhere but Louisiana is a garbage state.

It wasn't long ago that a girl was accidentally hit and killed by a car in Baton Rouge after being gang raped and dropped off in a street drunk.

Kinda freaky if you think about the overdose idea. Someone could slip a fentanyl tab or fentanyl liquid in your drink, and if you die, authorities will just rule it an overdose. Even if they believe you were intentionally drugged, it would be nearly impossible to prove you didn't take it yourself.

The bad guys were in the same bar and targeted him since he was drunk. Pull the recordings from that night and you'll find the killer(s).

Sounds like the guy was looking for crack and prostitutes after he left the bar.
