So this week we are all alarmed at video showing four Americans getting kidnapped and shoved into a truck while in Matamoros. The plates on the American car are from North Carolina. The story is they went for a medical procedure* and/or medication. These are not uncommon reasons for people to go to Mexico these days. Unfortunately, kidnappings or fear of kidnappings is also not unusual. It is pretty commonly known that you need to take a lot of precautions when travelling there because these are known problems. A lot of Americans have already gone missing there. Not to diminish this in the least, but why all the sudden shock over this and government initiative? What makes these people worthy of a reward and government action when previous victims barely get mentioned? Why are these people different?

*Personal note - a friend of mine from childhood struggled with weight in her 50s and got gastric surgery in Mexico a while back. She suffered some ill affects due to a botched surgery and died about 2 years afterward. Patient beware.

Could be a catalyst or an excuse that the current administration may use to enact some new border policy, due to how bad things are down there.

Maybe don't go to Mexico in years where border crossings and cartel activity are reported to be a real concern.

Wait, so a group of college aged kids drove from North Carolina to Matamoros, on Spring Break…for an elective surgical procedure?

Yeah, I'm not buying that. I don't know why they put that out there. Just be honest and say they went for drugs. It doesn't make what happened to them any less awful.

For all of you young, naive millennial idiots thinking about crossing the border into Matamoros next week, please first Google "Mark Kilroy". It will give you pause.

ETA: after seeing the releases of their identities, they aren't "college aged" after all, but the point still remains.

not sure. Our government has intentionally empowered and further enriched the cartels by inviting millions of poor Guatemalans, Hondurans, and El Salvadorans to caravan through their country to pretend they're seeking asylum in America. Maybe for all our government has done for their friends in the cartels, there was an understanding that traveling Americans were to be left alone?

Yeah, well black Americans think that America is the most racist country, have never been other places.
The cartel will use them as leveraged trade for something or just make them disappear in an acid bath.
They way they were dragging those bodies makes you wonder if the bullets got to them first.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was ayahuasca or something and not a surgical procedure.

Edit, never mind, sounds like cosmetic surgery.

I didn't know that.
That was such a tragedy back then.
His murder changed how people behaved for a decade.
So freaking sad and scary.
Apparently Sara Aldrete is still alive in a Mexican prison.

I'm going to go ahead and say it. These four were probably going to purchase cheap Rx and resell it in America.

The wealthy tourist places like Cabo and Cancun have safer areas because the wealthy tourist currency is precious to Mexico.

4 adults, all with different surnames, traveling to Mexico to "buy medicine".

Tylenol 3 is 'medicine,' it's also a key ingredient to recreational drinks in their 'community.' Each pill sells for $50 per on the street. Going to Mexico and buying just three bottles of it can make you more money than most people make in a month of work.

This isn't the 90s. I don't think anybody drives to Mexico to buy drugs anymore. Mexico brings them here.

Last time I went to Mexico was two years ago to help at a children's orphanage and school across the boarder.
The ONLY reason it was safe was that many of the cartel send their kids to that school.

Mexico... what America will look like soon if the democrats keep winning.

The cartels are bringing up prescription drugs? I guess all those complaints about medication prices will soon be wiped out by that invisible hand, eh?

My brother and his future wife were in Matamoros that night. They didn't know anything about it until they got home. Their group did see someone get gunned down on one of the side streets when they stayed out too late.

I started going to Padre / Matamoros the next Spring Break and you could tell the crowds shut it down earlier every night because of what happened to Mark Kilroy. There was always a mass exodus toward the border and everyone made sure they were in it.

You realize that they kill Americans everyday. This is no big deal to them as they don't value life like the rest of us do.
