Associated Press: Fake Trump Bot Army Deployed

National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, March 4, 2023. (Alex Brandon/AP)

WASHINGTON (AP) Over the past 11 months, someone created thousands of fake, automated Twitter accounts perhaps hundreds of thousands of them to offer a stream of praise for Donald Trump.

Besides posting adoring words about the former president, the fake accounts ridiculed Trump's critics from both parties and attacked Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador who is challenging her onetime boss for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

When it came to Ron DeSantis, the bots aggressively suggested that the Florida governor couldn't beat Trump, but would be a great running mate.

As Republican voters size up their candidates for 2024, whoever created the bot network is seeking to put a thumb on the scale, using online manipulation techniques pioneered by the Kremlin to sway the digital platform conversation about candidates while exploiting Twitter's algorithms to maximize their reach.

The sprawling bot network was uncovered by researchers at Cyabra, an Israeli tech firm that shared its findings with The Associated Press. While the identity of those behind the network of fake accounts is unknown, Cyabra's analysts determined that it was likely created within the US.

Democrats have been doing the same thing for a decade or more.

This is how they get companies to bow down to the Twitter mob because it will appear millions of people are outraged by something, when in fact it is nothing but BOTs controlled by a few people.

When they tried to take out Rush over the **** comment, he hired a cybersecurity firm to track down who was behind it. They found it was 6 people behind over 99% of the tweets calling for his advertisers to cancel him.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Pioneered by the Kremlin? Hardly. Pioneered by marketing people since these technologies first emerged and copied and exploited by the Kremlin and just about anyone else out there trying to manipulate American politics on the cheap, like lobbyists and NGO and political activists and businesses and other nations, political parties, Nigerian Princes, etc.

Trump was removed from office largely via propaganda/bots/censorship/vote fraud, so naturally he is going to respond imho with such a counter (if denied/not publicized).

We'll see more and more of this moving forward from all sides. Whoever the Dem nominee is will receive much more than simply sunday am TV show tongue baths from Andrea Mitchell/Chuck todd.

The level of sophistication/acrimony in the bots themselves will also probably grow, as the intelligence of things like Chat GPT has shown, and the CCP has a tremendous amount of data about social media manipulation now that they simply haven't had in the past. Zuckerburg/Soros are basically has-beens in the race to weaponize technology to influence elections/government.

Do some people not know pretty much everything they see in social media manipulated? If that is a lesson you haven't learned yet, what more evidence are you needing?

It's about time. The left has been doing this since the dawn of social media. I still disagree with it completely, but it's just the way that it has been. The right has to do this now. If for the only reason of muddling up any credibility that may be left regarding getting reliable info, from any side, on social media.

Edit to add, it was bots that suppressed Covid information and that force feed leftist propaganda that got Biden "elected."

It would be funny if the bots were praising and criticizing in Trump fashion.

"Trump was the greatest president ever. He defeated the fake news bigly"

"Sleepy Ron DeSantis is a swamp creature"

And they also pay trolls like this one $60-70k a year to tweet.

I guess when you are not on social media and approach everything with skepticism and believe almost nothing that you read, then none of this stuff is relevant.

If everyone operated that way, we would have fewer problems.

Reagan was a democrat for over 30 years. Then he wised up, changed parties and did what was right for the country and him. Really no different from Trump. Now Reagan still a better president than Trump, but it's weird how focused you are on this. Trump did good for this country.

LOL, that's silly. They don't need to pay trolls to post that. There are a lot more people who do that voluntarily because that's how they feel. Is it really that hard to believe people would say that for free?
