Having daylight in the afrernoon when you get back home from work.
I don't really care either way, but for most of the country that extra hour of sunlight is going to be in cold weather and they're not going to do anything productive outside with that time. Texans would generally benefit, though.

That's all that counts really.
Trump will fix it.

Guess it's time for the twice a year whining over the time change. We've tired permanent DST in this country. It failed miserably. Everyone hated it. It lasted less than a single year after people experienced DST for one winter.

If there is a permanent time it must be standard time... If you made DST permanent you would have the sun not rising til 9 in the winter.

I don't know where you live, but the latest the sun rose in the DFW area was 7:30am in mid January.

In Cleveland, the latest is 7:53am around the same time. In NYC, its around 7:20am the first week of January.

Where in the hell is it anywhere near 9:00?

DFW sunrise in Jan at 7:30 is on standard time. Go to permanent DST and sunrise is at 8:30. In fact most of Texas would have 8:30-9:00 sunrise in winter.
No thanks.

Kids still go to school at 8:00
Rush hour is still from 7-8

People's daily lives haven't changed that much. One winter of people being at work in the dark for two hours in morning and kids waiting on the bus/being dropped off at school in the dark, and people will be demanding to bring it back.

we will just have to disagree until we have real evidence of how people will react at this time.

Love me some daylight savings time. Every year without fail I drink too much on opening weekend of deer season. I get one hour of extra sleep after that Saturday night before I head out Sunday morning.

Ding ding. This is why permanent daylight savings will never get implemented.

I hear your point. It's interesting though that it passed the senate last go and didn't have time to get voted on by house. Didn't seem like "never" to me from a legislative stand point?

If they had real cajones, they would add an extra hour to every Saturday night. That's some real hope and change right there.

Pineapple, mushroom, and tomato. Black olives if feeling fancy

Love it when the pineapple bakes into the tomato sauce and crisps up on its edges

Proving the old adage " a picture is worth a thousand words "
This should be the EOT

people can agree to disagree about if this a good idea but moving our time to "Eastern Standard time" does have noticeable consequences

I can drive to work in the dark.

DST means I have more sunlight AFTER work when I can actually DO things...
Your username clearly doesn't check out unless you are a typical "me me me" boomer with grown kids.... The sun should be up before school begins. They need more sleep than you do.
ridiculous.

they somehow manage half the year.

and have their noses buried in their cell phones the rest of the time.

people adapt to the changes when they occur. they cam adapt to this permanently as well.
These time change threads prove otherwise.

We tried permanent DST before and it was hailed as greatness before it started and everyone hated it 6 months later.

Sunset in New York City on December 21 was 430 in the afternoon.

That's terrible.
Same thing in Seattle, or at least I think it was. It's too cloudy in the evening to tell anyway. Sunset is when it gets dimmer and it's misting more.

Bigger problem is Seattle was DST - trying to get kids to go to bed on time when it was light out until after 10 PM was horrible.

Absolutely correct, getting to sleep was a pain in the ass on my end too because I only had blinds on the windows.

This passed in the Senate last year with 100% of the vote. Then it promptly disappeared and anyone in Congress who was interviewed about it on either side of the aisle acted really weird about it. The politics behind this issue are so bizarre.

A lot of people drive to work in the dark every day already. A lot of people don't like driving to work in the dark and then driving home from work in the dark. WGAS if that means sunrise is at 9?

what day is sunset after 10 in seattle?

I don't hate the time change like some apparatnely do. Its really not a big deal at all. But the "we should stick to standard time" wackos needs to be sent to arkham.

I didn't say sunset was after 10 PM. I said it was light until after 10 PM. Sunset was around 9:20 PM.
