I've said this often, it used to be that the left and the right usually shared common goals, but varied on the methodology to achieve them. Now the left and right do not share common goals, therefore there can be no compromise on methodology.

Not much you can agree on when one side controls the flow of information and silences/memory holes opposition thought. The Twitter Tapes showed that. It's more than troubling.

Even worse when you have people in government autocratically engaging in treasonous endeavors to undermined an elected president in Trump and these people are never brought to justice. Instead they are rewarded financially by the incestuous union of government and industry that thrive on lining their pockets with tax money.

Problem is defining a liberal or conservative. Both are defined differently by someway dubious methods.

I think we generally want the Iives of people to be improved over time. I think we deviate in what exactly that constitutes, how to weigh outliers, and the effective processes for actuality achieving goals.

Good example. I think it's fair to say the overall political spectrum has moved left bringing most everyone along with it. Thus, issues like this have achieved compromise or agreement.

It's just that most of us on the right have hit the left most limit we are willing to go at this point but the left keeps sprinting further left.

Department of Interior type stuff is usually very bipartisan. National Parks, wilderness areas, wildlife conservation, etc.

I can't think of much beyond that at this point.

Libs agree with conservatives that many of the current extremist policies are harmful for the country.

They continue to vote for this extremist policies as they see voting as a game and their team needs to win.

They are not very smart.

One of my best friends is liberal as hell. He's very intelligent and has decent enough common sense and/or situational awareness. However, he's willfully ignorant of the damage done by liberal/socialist policies everywhere it's been tried.

All we talk about is football, baseball, beer, and bourbon.

That they don't like the other.

THINK is obviously the operative word. There is a disconnect between what they THINK they are doing vs. what their appointed leaders are actually doing.

Also, liberal vs. leftist as mentioned previously. The liberals aren't in charge of 'their' party anymore.

The government is failing us.

That seems to be said by each side, sometimes even when their side is in charge.

To expand on the OP, if you really mean liberals and not progressive leftists, then I believe there is a lot of common ground on traditional American ideals about liberty. But I had mentioned methodology. While the right believes that individual responsibility, decentralized governing, and strict constitutional roles/limits for the federal government, and maybe most important, a common moral structure to guide all of those. The liberals distrust the ability of individuals and local governments to maintain and provide for the common welfare. They instead turned to the federal government for this and went about consolidating power in Washington whenever they had the power to do so.

But somewhere along the way, the progressive left, under the disguise of liberals, appropriated the power structures that liberals built and now run roughshod over both liberals and conservative common principles. The one great failure of liberals in my view, is that they failed to realize that the best way to avoid the abuse of power is not to create the power in the first place. This was the American plan, and they, perhaps innocently, ruined it with their short sightedness. Too many of them still fail to see it, though you have a few breakthroughs now and then. Liberals like Tim Pool for example.
