Still pissed they closed Southpark Meadows
Am I correct in thinking that if there was no power outage this wouldn't have happened, and as such, it wouldn't have been an issue?TChaney said:Austin has gone full Mad Max. Legit question for guys in the big-time grocery business --
Is the incidence of power loss at grocery stores so infrequent that it doesn't pay to have the refrigerated cases on large backup diesel (or natural gas) generators?
I recall walking into a WalMart back after the great 2021 power outage and seeing every refrigerated case they had completely empty. That had to throw all that product away, although I think they left the beer alone.
Capital expense, maintenance, permits, possible environmental regulatory issues since theyre all close to neighborhoods…not worth it is my guess. These would be enormous units just sitting there waiting for rare occurrences.
Take the loss and file with insurance. Or have a standby agreement with a nearby equipment rental company like Aggrekko.

Yep. It really was a nice place. Even South Austin was nice-a blue collar area that was well kept.Charles Hickson Knows said:
My point of origin and yes it's sad to see what Austin has become. In the early '60's there was something magical about the place. Such a beautiful spot it must have been only 200 years ago. I hope it can be a success story.
Yep. Watching The Last of Us and I'm thinking that's modern day.zephyr88 said:

Yeah, what makes these morons morons is the fact they cannot separate their victimhood from the consequences of their own actions. If they have and hindthought it will be to blame HEB for throwing out spoiled food.whoop1995 said:Will they though??????……C@LAg said:

At least us rednecks aren't in the dumpsters looking for dinner. Still plenty of squirrels and raccoon.

Most HEBs usually have a partnership with Enchanted Rock for backup generation (Buc-ees as well). I'm not sure about specific Austin regulations, however we've partnered with them in non-attainment areas here in Texas and haven't had issues with passing emissions or noise regulations. Their generators are amazingly quiet. I've seen some backed up to neighborhoods; they don't even know when the my run.
The generators are used for two purposes; for utility outage purposes as well as the ability to sell into the ERCOT market. HEB/Buc-ees usually only pay a fraction of the cost which allows Enchanted Rock to maintain ownership and utilize for ERCOT purposes.
