How do you not love this guy? Dude knows how to win the culture war. BTW he included pet medications as well because they are like "family members" too. He just knows how to play this game.

I hope the tax break is for all stoves. Let the consumers then choose.

The gas stove thing is kind of misleading because majority of homes in Florida don't have regular gas stoves. Most people have electric stoves or use propane. But, electric stoves make up the majority. I see what he's getting at, but as someone who owns homes in Florida, I'd rather he focused on other more meaningful items for tax savings.

This. It is so simple and so smart. He's playing the democrat playbook from a conservative's strategy.

Dropping sales tax on products for families (specifically babies and kiddos) is a winner across the board. It's pro family helps the poorest families (who typically have the most kids) the most. Those large minority families benefit. It buys votes. But it does so the conservative way. Instead of giving a freebie, he simply removed a tax.

Pet meds? Genius. Think of all the old retirees in Florida with their little lap dogs and cats. Many on fixed budgets. And so many of them come from the NE and vote dem.

Gas stoves. Awesome. Totally trolling the left but he knows the only ones that will really pitch a fit about it are the far leftists that are never, ever, going to vote R anyway. So who care. And the more gas stoves in circulation, all the better for when the leftists come after them.

He's relentless with the stuff just the way the left is. And that is how the war has to be fought, the same way the left does. Put them on their heels every week, every day. We can't be traditional Republicans, happy to just hold the line. Attack, attack, attack.

DeSantis is one of the few Republicans who is playing offense. Florida is one of the few states where the political pendulum actually shifts to the right. Most other states it's a continual leftward creep.

Why not both. Lifting sales tax on gas stoves is effortless (I am assuming this can be done without some sort of legislation). Easy. Done. Sends a message. I have no doubt he will continue to pursue bigger fish. Why not get the low hanging fruit whenever the opportunity exists?

sorry his five minutes of total effort on that totally ruined your entire week.
How did it ruin my week? I was just pointing out that the gas stove tax is sort of meaningless to majority of Floridians. Both of my homes have electric stoves. Why not do away with sales tax on electric stoves as well? That would actually help people in Florida. Especially those of us still recovering and rebuilding after Hurricane Ian.

Question. Do you think this kind of rhetoric is going to help anyone, Trump or DeSantis, win in 2024? This is exactly how we ended up with the never Trumper Republicans. Trump would have won bigger in 2016 without alienating so many on the right. He may have won in 2020 by not continuing with the constant rhetoric.

Once again, I just don't see what this accomplishes or how one can even argue it's a winning strategy.

I have gas at my home in North Texas and prefer cooking on my gas stove. My parents and grandparents have had vacation homes in Florida since the 70s and the stoves have always been electric. So, I wasn't surprised about that when we bought our homes there. I haven't given it much thought, but I assume electric being used more often has something to do with hurricanes.

So you're suggesting that 2020 wasn't a massive exercise in voter fraud, and that Biden really won with 81 million votes?

I'd love to see Trump and Desantis go at it, as a trump supporter I welcome it and think the mud slinging will be a good time. But the Desantis crowd is so furious that Trump is running or might have the audacity to say something negative about their guy. They constantly insult trump supporters, yet can't take the slightest criticism - or even tolerate "yeah I prefer trump".

His feelings are hurt because Trump is objectively so inferior to DeSantis.

Doesn't really help the cause to alienate the hard core Trump sycophants like him either, but I don't really know how you can appeal to them without Trump being the candidate. You just hope that little by little they come around on Trump's flaws. With Trump getting more unhinged it should continue to cause people to change their views on him.
