I see this is offered without comment. That's probably for the best.

I can add some context to the last words if you want. John Adams didn't know that Thomas Jefferson had already died several hours earlier, James Madison was responding to one of his nieces when she asked "What is the matter?", James Monroe was referring to James Madison, one of his best friends, William Henry Harrison's last words were to John Tyler, James K. Polk's last words were to his wife, Millard Fillmore's last words were about some soup he had just eaten, etc.

He had a terrible last year or so physically - throat cancer - presumably from all the cigar smoking. Intense pain when swallowing. Difficulty breathing. Inability to eat solids or drink liquids at the end.

A terrible way to have to pass in the present, imagine how terrible it would have been in that period of time.

That's all easily Googled and some of them are common knowledge.

What I meant is why did you post this? What is the conversation you're looking to start?

38. RONALD REAGAN
Reagan's last words have not been shared with the public, but his daughter Patti shared his final moments:

At the last moment when his breathing told us this was it, he opened his eyes and looked straight at my mother. Eyes that hadn't opened for days, did. And they weren't chalky or vague. They were clear, and blue, and full of love. If a death can be lovely, his was. In his last moment, he taught me that there is nothing stronger than love between two people, two souls... It was the last thing he could do in this world to show my mother how entwined their souls are... and it was everything

It has to do with politics, since it's about the presidents and their last words, and it also has to do with the general board, which is why I posted it there as well.

Are you an actual bot? You've said this nearly exact same thing on other threads.

What you posted would be an interesting topic and relevant for this board if you have nearly any commentary at all. Are you saying older presidents had more interesting, historical last words? Are you comparing some presidents to others?

Give us an idea of what you would like to discuss.

I would like to discuss their last words in general. People can comment on or compare whichever president or presidents' last words they want, which is why I posted them, since I wanted to start a discussion. I'll give an example: Herbert Hoover's last spoken words are unknown, but his last written words were a get well message to Harry S Truman, who hit his head on the bathtub after slipping in his bathroom. In my opinion, his last words are the strangest last words out of all the presidents.

If someone else wants to discuss his last words, they can, or they can discuss another president or presidents' last words

They're the last words of the leaders of our country, so they're politically relevant. Also, the last words are accurate, except Chester A. Arthur's last words were paraphrased by one of his friends.

Hoover, wtf?

I wonder if Obama will repeat LBJ's line when his time comes?

In some versions of Jackson's last words, at least two of his favorite slaves (Hannah for sure) were present.....Hannah always said Jackson said "I hope to meet you all in Heaven, Black and White!" Supposedly Hannah asked the other slave after Jackson expired...."do you think General Jackson will be in Heaven?" The response was..."if Jackson wants to go to Heaven, who's going to keep him out?"

Herbert Hoover's last written words were a get well message to Harry S Truman after he slipped in his bathroom and hit his head on the bathtub, which is why they're weird (his last spoken words are unknown).

John F. Kennedy's last words are ironic. He said them in response to his passenger Nellie Connally, the wife of governor John Connally, after she said "You certainly can't say that the people of Dallas haven't given you a nice welcome, Mr. President." Lee Harvey Oswald definitely didn't give him a nice welcome.

Oswald wasn't a Dallasite
lethalninja
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's less ironic, then, but it's still ironic because of the nice welcome part.

Richard Nixon's last words are extremely thought-provoking, profound and insightful, conveying a vast and multitudinous sea of emotions that would put the likes of Shakespeare to shame. Macbeth, Hamlet and Richard III are all half-witted simpletons compared to the brilliance of his beautiful mind. I have never seen poetry in its purest form until today. In this case, a word paints a thousand pictures rather than the inverse.

It might seem like I was making fun of Richard Nixon's death in one of my earlier posts, but I was analyzing his last words as if they were historical, since I thought it would be funny.
