Yeah the SWAT team likely came from the city of Cherokee which is right in the middle of the main res. Murphy does have a Harrahs casino run by the tribe, but it's much smaller than what Cherokee has. The area this happened is out near Hiwassee Dam, which isn't the most remote part of the county, but it's close.

I don't know man. Just anecdotally, I have observed a SHARP decline in the quality and condition of officers in Houston. Also, I can't tell you the last time I saw a white HPD officer. Seems like they are pushing diversity over everything now...which usually isn't a formula for success. Should be hiring the absolute best, black, white, brown, whatever.

This dude just won the trailer park lottery though. Stable condition, will probably make a full recovery, and will now be a millionaire.

Is there a non-Indian Cherokee Police Dept? And are they subject to the same laws and governance?

It seems like Indigenous people get a lot of leeway on their own lands to do justice and discipline as they see fit. Maybe I'm wrong.

They no knock open the door and throw in a robot??
Why not use the bull horn and state police open up and come out?
What was going on the previous 5 hours?
Guessing the 3 guys who drop and F bomb and the one with hands on head are the shooters. They were sure praying to find a gun around the doorway inside or out but NOPE just the damn robot they threw in and he walked out with in his hands held high. Miracle this guy is still alive. Sherriff might have to delay funding their own swat team for awhile paying this poor guy off.

It is such a bad shoot. Even if the robot looked like a gun, he didn't point the object in their direction. It was clear that he was complying with every one of their orders. The fact that they didn't kill him is still amazing.

I had a problem with the initial shooting, but I have a huge problem as well with the actions of the cops afterward. Their lack of regard for their victim, the initial attempt to plan a cover-up which luckily one of them noticed the camera, and then the actual cover-up should land all of them in jail.

Comparing police to military? Don't get me wrong I'll take my men and women in the military over police any day but their jobs are different. Military is trained to follow orders and be damn good at what they do. Police NEED extra training. That training goes towards dealing with domestic issues. Guess what happens when police funding gets cut because BLM and radical left? Police have less time/money to properly train new recruits. What does that lead to? Barney Fife unprepared with a rifle in a stressful situation.

Police need more funds to properly train. Dude in this video knows he f'ed up. Also sounds like he was in way over his head. Training, training, training.

The police literally woke up the couple from a dead sleep. You can't get much further from a domestic dispute with gun fire than that. I guess we are to believe these two had some epic dispute 4-6 hours previously, made up, then went to bed. Preposterous.

Either way...this police response was so stunningly incompetent from dispatch to the responding officers that it rises to malevolent incompetence.

The qualifications for a job that starts at $35,000 a year are not that high. Literally, never been arrested, pass a background check of some sort, high school diploma and maybe a few college hours is all you need.

But you can't increase the qualifications without significantly raising pay.
