These "rain bombs" are what's filling up California's reservoirs right now.

Lake Shasta, biggest one in the state, up over 50 feet in two weeks. That's 52% capacity compared to 34% a year ago.

Lake Orville is at 58% capacity as of Jan. 17, compared to 44% a year ago. What's more, is that it is higher today and at any point last year.
This. We've gone from catastrophic, Armageddon level stories of California running out of water because of climate change just last year....to catastrophic, Armageddon level stories of California having too much water.

Bottom line: F* California.

You saw how so many doctors and doctor wannabes got so excited about the attention they were getting during the covid overreaction, weather people are much the same. Used to they had a couple of active months during hurricane season when they could talk about named storms with almost orgasmic delight. Naming winter storms and other winter events gives them even more months to be in the spotlight as does the stupid terminology of "rain bombs" and "bomb cyclones" and such.
It got me to quit paying attention to anyone but the local weather guy who's been on air longer than I've been alive, and nhc.noaa.gov during the late summer and early fall. This naming cold fronts nonsense is just stupid.

I will add, I just heard the "weather" channel refer to "atmospheric rivers" last week then algore mentions it yesterday.

Another "change the language, control the argument" item I suppose.

Rain bomb is a ridiculous term.

Atmospheric river is just basic meteorology.

totally missed the mark if they want to instill fear they should be called AR15 rain bullets.
The association of fear pr0nning weather has determined that "Assault rain" delivered the maximum affect on their trial audiences.
