Is this just a heavy downpour that the left is renaming to scare everyone into giving the government and elites more power in the name of "science"?

I will add, I just heard the "weather" channel refer to "atmospheric rivers" last week then algore mentions it yesterday.

Another "change the language, control the argument" item I suppose.

Yes. I work with meteorologists. All these terms like Rain Bomb, Bomb Cyclone, etc are made up for fear mongering.

And just about any large thunderstorm over water is named a tropical storm now.
No, I don't care what CNN or MSNBC said this time

A term made up by a power hungry has been who is desperately clinging to a cause in hopes of retaining influence and even relevancy.

the Hill Country experiences these events:

Edwards Plateau harbors 'rain bombs'

historically, National Weather Service forecasters have said that large flood-producing storms occur more frequently over the Edwards Plateau and its escarpment than over any other area in the United States east of the 105th meridian, which runs north-south near El Paso.

Likely is is just heavy rain. They basically go through some sort of "What is your WWE name" quiz, but with normal, everyday weather.

Microbursts are a thing. It's when you have small fast moving columns of air descending from a thunderstorm. It can be bad if you're flying under it.

Were not rain bombs first used by George Bush to create hurricane Katrina?

I wouldn't throw in "atmospheric river" term into the same fearmonger category as some others. It's been around for 30 years and is a pretty apt name for the event it's describing.

You saw how so many doctors and doctor wannabes got so excited about the attention they were getting during the covid overreaction, weather people are much the same. Used to they had a couple of active months during hurricane season when they could talk about named storms with almost orgasmic delight. Naming winter storms and other winter events gives them even more months to be in the spotlight as does the stupid terminology of "rain bombs" and "bomb cyclones" and such.

So they're slang terminology for stuff that has occurred since the planet had an atmosphere roughly equivalent to what it has today and these things happen when and where the conditions are right. They're great for hyperbolic antics to frighten the ignorant I suppose.

And refuses to build the infrastructure to capture all the rain which will just flow out to sea. In less than 6 months they'll be back to *****ing about not having any water.

These "rain bombs" are what's filling up California's reservoirs right now.

Lake Shasta, biggest one in the state, up over 50 feet in two weeks. That's 52% capacity compared to 34% a year ago.

Lake Orville is at 58% capacity as of Jan. 17, compared to 44% a year ago. What's more, is that it is higher today and at any point last year.

California's atmospheric river/rain bomb was a weather event, not an everyday one but something normal that happens from time to time. As usual, human activity such as poor building practices & population increase has made the damage worse (not surprising). The media in its unending search for a lead that bleeds, sees the event and shouts "GLOBAL WARMING" which is latched onto by parrot hucksters like Al Gore.

Quote:

Although scientists are still studying the size and severity of storms that killed 19 people and caused up to $1 billion in damage, initial assessments suggest the destruction had more to do with California's historic drought-to-deluge cycles, mountainous topography and aging flood infrastructure than it did with climate-altering greenhouse gasses.

This is similar to wildfires. When you allow an increasing population to build in heavily wooded mountainous terrain that naturally should burn every few years to reduce fuel loads, fires will be more intense & cause more damage. Has nothing to do with global warming!

It's nice to see scientists pushing back on the hyperbole:
Quote:

"A group I call 'mediaologists' always hype the current situation to make it seem worse than the last one," Gershunov said, using a pithy play on the word meteorologists.
Although scientists still can't say yet where recent storms rank among other epic downpours, they said they did not appear to be one of a kind.
"Overall, it was nothing as big as what we've gone through before," said Jayme Laber, senior hydrologist for the National Weather Service in Los Angeles.

California won't be happy until they can set the time, location and amount of rain they receive. They think it's supposed to be that way and the govt. can make it happen.

Idiots...ALL OF THEM!!!
Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and myself founded empires; but upon what foundation did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force! But Jesus Christ founded His upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for Him. - Napoleon Bonaparte

They're 100% real.... my point was about Gore's attempt to change language to fit his personal agenda and sway those too ignorant to know the difference.
