Usually they're sold at your nearest grocery store. Crappy phone inside that comes with X minutes of talk time that can be refilled as desired. Phone isn't under your name on a plan and you paid for it in cash. Not traceable unless you do something like keep it turned on when you're at home or while you carry it along with your regular phone all the time.

Also be sure to watch Better Call Saul and Breaking bad if you haven't already.

Just want to understand why a Doctoral student n Criminology refused to use a burner phone. My last understanding was that they were abundant and easily obtained with cash from a variety of sources.

They are traceable but not to the user.

Yes, big fan and have watched the entire series multiple, multiple times.

The scenes when Hank and Gomez are following Walt's cell phone into the where he buried the money.

Their phones were on too. As were Uncle Jack's and the rest of his crew (who actualy had real burned phones) and were completely traceable. Walt called Jack from that phone. Not dead zone.

Cops would have known where Hank and "Gomie" were.
