On yesterday's The Five, Geraldo Rivera mistakenly claimed that the "AR" in "AR-15" stands for "assault rifle." He also falsely claimed that AR-15s are "machine guns."

After 1/2 the gun owners in America corrected him, he still had opinions. He basically says owning an AR is making up for having a small *****.

It was a bad segment for him. He set it up telling about seeing a doctor die after an AR-15 "blew half of his head off".

He said they can't be used for anything outside of sporting clubs. He said they can't be used to hunt deer.

To be fair, like a third of the states do ban AR-15s (.223/5.56 versions) for hunting

But that is because they consider them not powerful enough for hunting.

Two of you have guessed 1/2 right.

The round on the left is a .30-06, a popular deer round. Also used by the US Army in both world wars. On the right is the 5.56 NATO or .223 Remmington. This is what a normal "AR-15" shoots.

Well, dang. Thx. The scale had me thinking you were being creative. I almost went with the swiss whatever they used in WW2 but you said common and it's not that big I suppose.

One of the blogs I follow had this on it the other day. That is for some reason quite pretty, whatever it is.

The left did try to ban real corks a few years back, as I recall. People who like to spend high double digits and up on a bottle though don't like plastic or screw caps I guess. Weird.

Alcopop wines that are more just flavored syrup with alcohol and synthetic flavors mixed in are…exempt from truth in labeling laws. Ironic that this is in many ways much less regulated than guns/ammo.

The one of the left is a Louis Vutton piercing cougar hunting projectile. Highly effective at close range and when used in conjunction with a high limit credit card and a Porsche.

Problem #2, keeping it together if you get it to that speed.

My father was a B-52 instructor pilot. He used to say you can get anything to fly, if you can get it moving fast enough. Your comment made smile as I thought about him.

We really struggled in Australia to adjust to the idea that a $50 bottle of wine with a screw top wasn't just some $2 bottle they marked up.

Indeed, this deer died simply because my daughter pointed that evil AR at her. She was 9 years old and maybe 75 lbs. Such a horrendous and scary weapon!
