It is futile for the world's largest economy to indulge itself with the idealistic notion it can simultaneously be that gigantic global influence ecomicslly, and therefore politically, and still somehow pursue isolationist geopolitics. The idea is absurd. It might have been feasible in the 19th century, but it certainly isn't now.

The issue now isn't usually whether or not we want to be involved but rather how much and what outcome is best for us. I think an investment in having a Ukraine militarily neuter Russia for a generation or two and forestall its aggressive expansionism will serve to allow us to reduce necessary defense spending in decades to come by allowing focus on China and naval security while allowing Europe to take the lead against a weakened Russian threat that they can contain. I don't doubt that with all the money and military hardware shuffling around there is some corruption going on, but the US government is pretty much a partially corrupt enterprise in and of itself, no matter what it is doing, foreign or domestic. Fortunately we are mostly supplying hardware and not cash, and they really need the hardware to fight the war, so there's not much available to sell on the side.
