This is a winning issue for Republicans but they refuse to articulate it in a way that gets to the nuts and bolts of the matter. The message is simple:

Quote:

The IRS targets blacks and hispanics on purpose to shake them down for small audit wins. The IRS audits blacks and Hispanics as much as 5x as often as white people. When democrats want to increase funding for IRS enforcement, the IRS' recent actions suggest Democrats want to audit blacks and Hispanics more often than they do now, which is already at a massively disproportionate level.

As a tax preparer, I can tell you who is doing the most cheating

(hint: its not the wealthy)
Why should they cheat. They can hire the best lawyers and financial advisors to shelter assets and income.

The entire tax code for individuals needs to be shorted(ie: eviscerated) and simplified. It is now one of the most overused systems and bureaucratic methods to ensure social change.
My point was that they make sure it is done right because they have the most to lose. and also, just another tidbit - there are way fewer tax shelters and "loopholes" than you think. the wealthy may be able to hire experts to file it for them, but on the whole they are paying tax out the butt. When they are are audited, the IRS usually doesn't find anything to worth finding. In other words, auditing someone like - say donald trump - is a waste of time other than giving them accountability to do it right.

almost every audit ive seen that "went bad" was a small business owner that was stuffing unreported cash in their pocket. so of course the IRS is going to keep pursuing those.

Of course not. And for the same reason they are not out leading protests. They have something to lose and people that depend on them.
The most cheating I have seen is going to be middle-class small business owners.

That and the cheaters who file the fake returns.

So we agree, the wealthiest in the country don't need to cheat and can hire the best lawyers and financial consultants in order to minimize their taxes.
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”
Thomas Jefferson, Letter to Edward Carrington, January 16, 1787
