So whatever you might think of Louisiana for this, this law will be meaningless ultimately. People will just use a VPN to connect to Pornhub and someone will readily develop (if it doesn't exist already) a browser extension to make the VPN tunnel easy for the non-savvy.

Politicians are dumb. And I say that as a conservative. If they think pornography is harmful (and it probably is), attack it another way.
Ban it and make it a crime to consume? Incarcerate users?
Yeah - this is the rub (pun intended). If you want to push back against internet pron there's not many effective and non-tyranical options.

As useless as age verification has proven to be - its SOMETHING. Sure, a 16yo can figure out a VPN or other bypass, but perhaps this stops the 9yo.
Except all of our resident moral crusaders fully support those tyrannical options and in fact want them imposed on the country. The United States seen in "Escape from LA" is their dream country.

I support banning pornography and imposing the death penalty on those that produce and distribute it.

Death sentence for sending your partner nude selfies. Bold move.
"Produce and distribute". Not saying I agree with him 100% on death sentence, but he was pretty clear that he is talking about filthy vile smut peddlers who are perfectly fine with someone's 10 year old boy watching and becoming hooked on their graphic porn videos. i do not wish porn directors and producers well, I will just say that. They could all die tomorrow and I wouldn't feel a thing. In fact, I think the world would be a better place, until some new evil blood funneled up the ranks to fill their shoes.

Not a man and wife taking nudies and sending to each other.

So death sentence for a man and his fianc. A man and his girlfriend? Single woman posting her own topless photo on the internet? Magazine print of a woman in a thong bikini?
I would probably support imprisonment or labor camps for professional producers and distributors of hardcore pornography...but probably not death sentence (although I wouldn't shed a tear over it). Not just because they are evil sleazeballs who are fine with children helping to line their pockets, but also for what they do to young, vulnerable, often damaged and mentally ill women.

It's pure evil.

But no, I would not support punishment for those examples you listed above.

And it wouldn't stop there. People like you would keep adding more and more actions to the list that would send people to the camps and as history as shown time and again, the end result is the people sent to the camps as "undesirables" would eventually be liquidated.

This is awesome. It's INSANE to me that this is not already the case. I cannot imagine having access to this level of extreme and endless online pornography as a preteen/teenager. We would just find small playboy clippings, or if we were lucky, a portion of a magazine, while out riding our bikes in the 80's and 90's. Had no other way of getting it, and it wasn't nearly this extreme. If it wasn't that, it was the scantily clad women on the Telemundo or Univision for me. Very thankful I did not have any access to this level of stiff at that age.
People who complain about this don't complain about having to show ID to enter a bar, buy alcohol, cigarettes or even vote.

But unlimited access to porn, which we all know is extremely harmful to young people, is OK.

Yes, at the end of the day it's a parents responsibility to control what their child can access, but I can't control other parents on what they let their kid's are allowed to access. And how many of you parents with young children ask the parent where you drop your kid off to play if they have limits on access to the intranet, Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.? I'll be almost none.

People are incarcerated for selling pot and most on the right seem fine with it (not me). Producing and putting hardcore porn out there for children and teens to see, with no restrictions making it hard for them to access, is orders of magnitude worse than selling pot, or many other things that are currently illegal...imo. I personally think it's far worse than consensual prostitution between adults.

If it's a felony for me to have a f-ing vape cartridge, it should be prison time for anyone scripting a young troubled 18 year old girl to become an abused semen recepticle for the enjoyment of adults (and many children and teenagers).

If this was at the federal level, I'd agree 100%. But State and local governments have pretty much always been able to determine what constitutes indecency. A lot of normal porn on Pornhub is technically illegal in many states/cities/counties if I remember correctly...just no one enforces it.
This. All levels of government are not the same. There are things I don't want in my community that I would not support a ban on by the federal government. For instance everyone with an HOA has given up a bunch of freedoms in order to live in a "better" community than would exist without the rules. The extreme libertarianism through all levels of government being peddled here by some is insane.

As mentioned above, where are the arguments here for the parents to be the sole regulator of alcohol, tobacco, appropriate driving age etc.? We have a right to collectively determine what behavior and actions we deem acceptable in our communities. As the level of government gets bigger and bigger that's harder to do because we have less in common.

Good. Anything we can do to make porn less accessible is good.

I am done playing the 'but porn is free speech' game.

Except your solution isn't and hasn't been working. There are some instances where legislation is needed. Or we could just rely on the website to be good citizens and implement stop gaps voluntarily. No it won't. What will happen is that VPN integration will become a basic feature of all browsers. You know how your Chrome or Firefox keeps getting bigger and requiring more horsepower to run because of features being added constantly? Like that. You won't have to think about how to bypass this dumb law. Your browser will do it automatically for you.

The duckduckgo browser iOS app already does.

I know, shocking concept right? I can remember when there was a section at the video store that only adults could enter or when nudie mags were kept at the top of the shelf and required proof of age, you know, like cigarettes and alcohol.

Which was the kind of the point. It made it a lot harder for kids to get. Where we are at right now with internet porn and young people is basically the equivalent of backing a semi truck of Budweiser up to a middle school locker room then throwing up our arms and stating "the kids will just keep outsmarting us, nothing we can do about it, drink up 14 year olds".

We don't know how effective it will be. My kids are rules followers. I think they would be much less likely to access porn online if it were illegal to do so below the age of 18 and proof of age was required. Not unlike drinking, many kids will abstain or at least not do it often simply because it is in fact illegal.

I think the bigger point is de-normalizing the mainstreaming of hardcore porn and the mass viewing of it by young people. It's a cultural free for all right now. It rewires young brains and not in a good way. It should be viewed the same way as pot, alcohol, or tobacco as it pertains to young people. No, we can't stop it but we can swing back to a cultural position of "not good for kids, when you're a grown ass adult screw your life up all you want". If that makes sense.
