The O&G stock thread got me wondering he net worth of each individual member of congress excluding the ones that were wealthy before being elected. By "wealthy", I mean those with over $1.5MM of net worth. For instance, AOC. she was a bartender just a few years ago. I wonder what her net worth is now after being in congress for such a short amount of time. I know there are others on the GOP side that fit this profile.

Anybody have a link to this info?

OpenSecrets may be a good tool, not sure how recent it would be though.

IMO their earnings while in office should be made public.

Remember HRC claiming the Clintons were broke (actually in debt) when Bill left the White House. Nancy and Paul Pelosi? Obama was said to have net worth of around a million dollars when he became President, how did he afford a $12m estate (upkeep and taxes) afterward?

The Republicans have their fare share of politicians w unexplainable wealth. I'd like to see Crenshaw's earnings and net wealth. As a younger representative who spent most of his adult career in the military reaching Lieutenant Commander, he earned about $62k a year. What is his net worth now and how did he attain it?

Elections are when people find out what politicians stand for, and politicians find out what people will fall for.

Subpoena their tax returns and holdings by R committee then release as part of congressional record. The precedent has been set, but does a committee of Rs have the balls to proceed?

The only way to get compliance with the constituents desire of any member of congress is to threaten them with a challenger. RNC leadership needs to create and deliver a clear message. But I am not very hopeful that will happen.

lol, outrageous is a claim about a Republican if Newsweek will shoot it down?

Quote:

It's not clear how a figure of $41 million was accounted for. While Boebert's earnings and assets have been reported on, no credible media outlet has claimed the congresswoman is worth this much, nor a figure close to that number.

Quote:

The claim appears to have come from the website CAknowledge.com which, among other estimates, states that "Boebert owns over 5 real estate properties, 4 Cars, 1 Luxury Yacht: "Lauren Boebert's Assets also includes Cash reserves of over $16 Million. Lauren Boebert also owns an investment portfolio of 10 stocks that is valued at $15 Million."

Newsweek was unable to find any verifiable information that corroborates these claims and no sources are cited by CAknowledge.com, a website that describes itself as "a community of Finance bloggers who are popularly known as 'Investors'! These are bloggers who are living an internet lifestyle or are currently moving in that direction."
Quote:

CAknowledge.com also makes a number of other false or unevidenced statements about politicians and public figures, including that Tucker Carlson is worth more than $400 million and that President Joe Biden owns two luxury yachts.

These are also presented without evidence. Newsweek was unable to find any evidence from credible outlets to corroborate them either.
Quote:

Accounts also show that her husband Jayson Boebert had assets, tax deference, and capital gains from 2021 worth tens of thousands of dollars. None of these reached anywhere near $41 million, however.
Similar documents showed Jayson Boebert's work as a consultant had earned him $478,386 in 2020 and another $460,601 the previous year.
Newsweek could not find evidence to support the claim that Lauren Boebert lives in a $12 million "luxury house" in Florida. In the financial disclosure report, her mortgage is listed as between $250,000 to $500,000.
Even if we were to take the income her husband earned, the purported value of their home, and other assets, the $41 million figure remains unsubstantiated.

Fact Check: Is Lauren Boebert Worth $41 Million?

Tell me if this true.

Politicians write books. And their campaign or party buys most all of them to push up best sellers list. Publisher and politician make money off of the donations.

1) their income/net worth should be public while in office
2) every measure needs to be taken to make sure it's accurate...not twitter or other media outlets "reporting" net worth
3) report should be reviewed and updated twice a year

The Obamas signed a $60 million deal with Penguin House in 2017 for the rights to publish their books.

The Obamas also pull huge fees on the speaker circuit.

Isn't hard to see how they could afford a $12 million House afterwards.

They also had a deal with Spotify and now Audible. No real question how they afford their lifestyle.

ETA: Presidents can do very well, legally, after they leave office with speaking fees, book deals, etc. The bigger concern to me is the congress critters who become extremely wealthy while "serving" the public. Yes, both parties have plenty examples of this, seems it is more the rule than the exception.

The Obama stuff is no big deal to me. Majority of his wealth came after presidency with book and speaker fees. It's the mothereffers in office currently getting rich that pisses me off.

His money came from entitles that benefited from his policies while in office. A bribe is still a bribe if it takes a while for the check to clear.

A lot of money comes from merely being a celebrity. As I posted above, the Obamas made $60 million just from selling the rights to their memoir books. Michelle Obama's 'Beloved' book sold 10 million+ copies. I guess if you mean 'entities' you mean the Democratic voter base who liked/loved them? And by 'bribe' you mean the Obama policies that catered to that voter base? Well, then, okay sure.

Become POTUS. Do policies that make about half the country happy. After your term(s), cash in by doing speaking engagements, selling your books, to that half of the country. The U.S. is a big country so even just half of the country liking you is still plenty enough folks to rake in a lot of dough.
