If you don't think this isn't happening, you have your head in the sand in 2022. I used to think like you in the early 2010s that it was just a fringe thing to care about. I've had managers told blatantly in the past say they were told their next hire needed to be a woman.

Our HR has pushed to hire women and get maternal leave policies (we're a small business).

I know the BD manager for an engineer services company that gets asked specifically to look for women for certain roles.

Here is a successful lawsuit but the company is appealing.

So, in my organization, it's me (I'm a white dude) and then my 3 engineers who are all hispanic dudes. Does that mean I need to fire 2 of them and hire a black woman and an asian woman?

You can't fire them. You will still need them to do the work you expect the black woman to do.

And Asians are white adjacent so they don't count.

They are paid to hold well qualified whites back and push less qualified POC ahead at their expense. If this were not the case, people would just compete based upon professional merit and the position of diversity manager would not exist.

Not necessarily. There are minorities that are absolutely phenomenal at their jobs and well qualified too. Just because it's easier to get hired or get a promotion as a member of an underrepresented group says nothing about the capacity of any individual

Most big corporations have active programs and policies in place to hire and promote BIPOCS over whites "to create equity" at the leadership level. These are public programs that have been shared. Most were put in place during the BLM uprisings.

And now some companies are requiring posted positions to have non-white candidates in the interview pool. If a job happens to only have a white candidate, that person is not allowed to be hired until/unless there is a non-white that applies and can be interviewed. I know of at least one company doing this.

I know of another company where a buddy works (he's a SrVP) and was told by HR that all backfills in his org must be women. And was even told that he has to invite female customers no matter how low in the org to sponsored events over ANY male leaders. This one came about during #metoo. I suspect that hiring mandate was replaced with a non-white mandate once the #metoo movement fell out of favor and was replaced with BLM.

By default, Herero white dudes will get passed over. This is known. Join corporate America and you will get to see all of this.

That isn't true but the quotes do create the perception which in the end hurts the minority.

That's right. And it's not just in hiring, it's also in performance evaluations, opportunities, and promotions.

This is absolutely correct. My wife has worked in executive level positions for 3 different Fortune 500 companies over the last 15 years, with total employees ranging from nearly 200k to 10k. Our son will graduate, possibly cum laude or magna cum laude from a public Ivy in the spring. My wife tells him all the time, he needs to strive to be entrepreneurial, because for the next decade or two it's going to extremely difficult for white males in corporate America to reach career milestones compared to previous generations. While it's not impossible for him to succeed, the deck will be stacked against him according to her.

We hired a Chief of EDI shortly after the summer 2020 hubbub.

Of course, in a city where Hispanics outnumber non-Hispanic black people 2.5-to-1 I thought it was interesting that all 5 of our finalists were non-Hispanic and black.

It's even more interesting when you dig into our employment data and every race (including black people) are overrepresented except for Hispanic (white and black) when compared to the city makeup.

Sure seems like there is a lot of unspoken "code" in these positions (the very thing they are allegedly here to eliminate).
