I'm sitting down to write the check to Travis County for our annual property tax shakedown, and I want to put something snarky in the memo line. It's a weak protest, but it's really all I have.

In years past I've written "Blood money" or "Anti-success tax", things of this sort.

I thought about writing "Please hire some good cops with this" or "Get CRT out of our schools" but I figured I'd throw it to the good folks of Forum 16 for funny ideas. What say you all?

I should mention: I am very grateful to have the means to live where I live and pay for this ridiculously-priced area. I'm first and foremost thankful, despite the lunacy of the concept of how property taxes are calculated.

I doubt the $10 hr accounts receivable intern is reading your check, and is just stamping it and entering the amount on the deposit slip.

Fry their system a bit more by overpaying by like $1 where they then have to spend $ by mailing a check back.

It does no good but I always get a chuckle reading that each of the above got one vote when the results are mailed out.

Nobody is reading that check. If it's attached to remittance (would be dumb not to) it's sent to a bank lockbox, scanned, and processed with a file from bank.

Just seems awful silly to buy into this situation, be surprised, and then act this childish re things like HOA elections. You do you though.

A friend of mine got a ticket in a speed trap in Mexia back in the 80s and put "and not one damn cent more" after the amount on the "pay to the order of" line because he was ticked off. It was all fun and games until he got a contempt of court charge a week later.
