Texans could have a dark, cold Christmas if an Arctic blast headed east continues its path.

Texas suffered a massive power grid failure in February 2021 after three severe winter storms and frigid temperatures stressed the grid. The grid's failure resulted in millions of Texans losing power, leading to a lack of food, water and warmth. The failure proved fatal, and hundreds died because of the outage. The failure dealt a blow to the economy as well, resulting in a loss of at least $195 billion.

Since the 2021 power grid failure, other uncharacteristic storms have hit the Lone Star State, but none have threatened the grid to the same extent. According to one meteorologist, that could change by Christmas.

WCNC Meteorologist Brad Panovich shared a forecast depicting temperatures for the next two weeks. Much of Texas will be subject to much colder than normal temperatures for several days over Christmas.

The media, Democrats, other leftists, and probably a few Abbott haters on the right (for different reasons) are all hoping for a massive power grid failure, not only because they hate Texas, but because they think it will give them a chance in 2024 and beyond. Remember, this is what Beta ran on in this election this year

What part of blizzard mixed with record cold for 5 days aren't they comprehending?

Oh right, that doesn't tell the story they want that we aren't prepared for a normal Arctic blast.

Our grid is threatened because of "green" energy policies. If anything, it'll just prove we need more fossil fuel and nuclear reactors

Most of us will throw an extra blanket on, eat what we got if power goes out, go for a ride and look at damage or no damage, just to get out of the house.

I felt media was trying to get excretement stirred up in Ft Worth officer trial.

Feb 2021 was a once in 75-100 year storm. Probably not see anything like that for another 75-100 years. Our grid is not built for that kind of extreme and it does not make sense to do so.

I think "hoping" and "warning" so 246-700 people don't die this time are different things.

Even then, the good news (because just error) is even the existing system with more clear-headed planning on priming reserve that Sunday night going into it might have been able to balance off power loads better. That seemed to be one conclusion of the drama.

This time? This isn't the same. This a normal storm in Texas every year.

Your party's nominee for Governor ran specifically on grid failure, and it was obvious your side was hoping it would happen during the summer to help elect Beta.

Never in this is article is anything ever mentioned of hoping for a failure. I'd say you're reading too much between the lines except there aren't even any lines.

The fact that the article mentioned a power grid failure at all seems to be proof enough. Why mention it at all? Texas has "weathered" many arctic blast events over the last decade without electrical issues. Just because there was one failure due to an event that happened for several days at a bad time, caused by incompetent people desiring to use unproven and unreliable "power" sources instead of what is proven and reliable.

1) We did NOT have a grid failure in 2021. We did have shortages that forced load shedding. But the grid did not fail. If it had, it would have been MONTHS before everything was back online.

2) This storm is mostly coming in without ice. It's also going to be incredibly windy. Turbine blades will not ice up, and they will be turning. So if expect wind power to be plentiful this time around.

Edit to add... I'm no fan of reliance on wind power but I don't think it'll be the babyruth in the swimming pool this time around.

Proof of what? That it's hard to make a headline out of weather so we get stuff like this?

At least a large portion of the Ercot footprint will warm up (above freezing) during the daytime hours. Big diff.

True...

I did get trapped on the island with an outside PVC pipe that burst at the valve, though. No place open to buy the parts to fix it so I had to shut off at the main valve. No water at all for 2 days.

But, JFC...it was below freezing for over 48 hrs on N Padre. That almost NEVER happens.

You can't design your system to catch every single edge case...

Exactly. That cold spell was such a freak occurance that it happens every 100 years. It was in the teens as a high for almost a week! It's going to be above freezing every day next week. Not even comparable.

Yup. Which makes this article nothing more than a liberal excuse to try to cast stones against the right. I'm shocked he didn't work in that it will impact minorities more than others. For ****s sake we get below freezing temps every year. For the foreseeable future every time we'll be reminded of the power issues. Never a mention of a once in a lifetime weather event.

Caution.

Have you heard the story of the very strong dwelling on Galveston Island in 1900 that was fully expected to survive the hurricane? Many flocked there to take shelter for that reason. But something untoward occurred, another large structure was set adrift and collided with the house in the rising waters, badly damaging the foundations. As a result, after hanging on a bit, it then completely and catastrophically collapsed.

The point is, try to think of what may go wrong, and have some fallback even if it seems "redundant" Do house generators have any peculiarities you have to bear in mind. That kind of thing.
