RETAIL Rising thefts at Walmart could lead to price jumps, store closures, CEO says

Quote:

Walmart stores across the U.S. are grappling with an uptick in shoplifting that could lead to higher prices and closed stores if the problem persists, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said Tuesday.

"Theft is an issue. It's higher than what it has historically been," he told CNBC's Squawk Box.

Quote:

When asked on Tuesday about how local jurisdictions handle shoplifting cases, McMillon said a lax approach from prosecutors could impact prices and lead to store closures down the line.

"If that's not corrected over time, prices will be higher, and or stores will close," McMillon said.

And who suffers in the end? The consumers, the people who do the right thing, will.

Good story from 32 years ago about the effects of Walmart putting in and then leaving. Much more retailers like Dollar General / Family Dollar to fill the void, plus Amazon, etc.

Hearne is near and dear to me and this decimated the downtown when they arrived and then the town itself when they pulled out.

Remember as a child talking to one of the old clothing store owners as my grandma was buying material and patterns to make dresses. He was closing up about 5-6 years after Walmart arrived. Western Auto held out until the 90's.

Probably one of the first and only times Hearne made the NYT.

Guards doing more clubbing, not the drinking kind, would probably be a better remedy.

Tonight on Channel 6 news we learned some people not paying for things makes things more expensive for the ones that do pay. After the break, we'll take a look at healthcare, city services, mass transit, high speed rail, SSDI, tuition and finally Kyle Field tickets pre-2015 ticket price rebalancing.

Don't let them fool you.

Higher prices come from WalMart sponsorship of employee abortions.

Seems like their usual solution is to put high theft items behind a case. Just gonna wind up with half the store behind a plastic case before long.

I find it hard to believe they have any realistic reliance on local law enforcement. This is 100% a deflection by the CEO.

But y'all got a high school out of it….,
We'll win this war, but we'll win it only by fighting and by showing the Germans that we've got more guts than they have, or ever will have. We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-b******, were going to rip out their living G*******d guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Hun c********** by the bushel-f****** basket. War is a bloody killing business. You've got to spill their blood or they will spill yours. Rip them up the belly. Shot them in the guts.

Not really. In Dem areas, they will just jump you in the parking lot or steal off your porch without repercussions. They only "shop" in stores now to ensure they get the right product, features and sizes.

When crime is tolerated, crime flourishes. See the Democratic Party for details.

I have heard that Walmart closed one store in Dallas because of theft. Walmart executives even met with Dallas DA to no avail.

Theft has to be a significant portion of inflation. I live in a pretty small Law and Order town and the Home Depot and Dollar General here get robbed blind daily.

I just don't understand the lack of prosecution.

Both Walmart and Target account for theft.
The numbers have been way higher this year.

Not because of lack of law enforcement per se, but because democrat DAs are not prosecuting anyone, and cities like San Fran have pretty much made it legal to steal as long as its not more than a certain amount
