I'm going to have to go with the assisted suicide slope. It is easy to be for it for the most hopeless and agonizing cases.

But the very hallmark of government is always, always taking more and giving less.

Witness Canada.

Voluntary now. But for how long?

Don't even have to make it mandatory one day. "We no longer provide coverage for this service. Your options are live with your terrible condition with no treatment for pain relief (physical or mental) or take this pill."

Fiat currency. It's a slippery slope worldwide. It allows politicians to fund forever wars. It allows every government to devalue your personal wealth by tying us in with bad faith actors.

All of them. If you abandon your integrity in one area, you lose your moral authority in every area. Never give an inch.

The women's lib slope was the worst. From "liberation" it went to "equality". From "equality" it went to "men and women are the same", and from there it went to "men and women are interchangeable", to "women don't need men", to "children don't need fathers", to "two men are the same as a man and a woman", to "a woman can become a man and a man a woman", to "men should be allowed into the girls locker room", to "men should be allowed to participate in women's sports" to "if you disagree that a man can become a woman, you are a bigot and should lose your job".

This 100%.

From equality to bitter unhappiness in just a matter of decades.

This movement is/was the direct catalyst to denying nature. Nothing good, at least long term, can come from that. Except for cats. I imagine cats love it.

Several conservative posters in a now deleted thread last night had significant issues with drug coverage for people with a chronic condition, previously terminal without drugs. What's the difference between that POV and the slippery slope you're posting about liberals. Feels like a double standard…maybe some of you all are on slippery slope.

Didn't read the whole thread but all I saw was complaints about the incessant advertising on tv, particularly during football games. I could easily see one or two people going out of bounds and saying people deserve the hiv they got, but I didn't personally witness it and was certainly not the intent of the thread.

I don't disagree with your assessment fwiw, but those posters are here and step out of bounds to that end periodically. Thread didn't go away because of the discussion OP started with. Back to this thread, just felt necessary to point out some hypocrisy that some are perfectly fine with these sorts of consequences if they can put it in THEIR moral framework.

That isn't a slippery slope. Maybe these people that frighten you so are proposing something you view as a slippery slope but they are not a slippery slope unto itself.

Unless you think that simply allowing opposing views is a slipp.....oh, I get it.

I did, you don't think it's one presumably because they represent your interests. That's how this works, we don't all have to agree what a slippery slope is. You don't think their influence can lead to negative ends, I definitely do.

Everyone is arguing for their own moral framework. Is high time we stopped pretending we're not all talking about morality when we're talking about legislation. Even legislating there be no morality is taking a moral stance by definition.

What has the left been screaming about since Roe was overturned? "Contraception and gay marriage are next!!!" We all do it.

"Gays just want to be left alone to do as they please in the privacy of their bedrooms".

Of course it went from that to "we want to change thousand of years of worldwide wisdom with regard to the purpose of marriage and pretend it's not procreative in nature".

From there it became "if you do not actively support homosexuality and 'gay marriage' then you are the problem. We care what you think in your own home".

Then it was "bake me a cake, bigot!".

To "you must call this woman 'he' or you risk losing your livelihood".

Now we are at "this boy will be dressing in your daughters' locker room" and "drag queen story time for kids" and elementary grooming of children.

The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once.

The uneven enforcement of the rule of law.

Democrats get away with widescale international fraud, threatening SCOTUS justices, widespread election fraud, incestual statutory rape, and child sex trafficking on Epstein island.

In the meantime, peaceful protestors who never even entered the capital building are held in solitary confinement as political prisoners without bail, a protestor against abortion who had agreed to turn himself in peacefully was swatted in the middle of the night, conservative politicians are swatted, and protestors against teaching gradeschool children about sex are labeled by the FBI as terrorists.

This is the most dangerous thing. This was the kind of stuff that kicked off the holocaust.

The mixture of fiat currency and euthanasia are the slipiest slopes.

Fiat currency makes us all broke so we cannot pay for gramps who is dying in the nursing home. In order to save the inheritance, off gramps and pocket the fiat cash while you can still spend it.

Reminds me of an episode of Star Trek:

Quote:

Timicin is crushed, and after some questioning by Lwaxana, he reveals that there are other things troubling him. Timicin tells Lwaxana that he is about to turn 60, and on Kaelon II, everyone who reaches that age performs the "Resolution", a ritual act of voluntary euthanasia. Lwaxana is outraged to learn of this and brings it to the attention of Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart).
