He promised a train that would travel from LA to SF in 35 minutes and rolled out a prototype of a tunnel that accommodates a single car. He unveiled a lifelike humanoid robot that was a dude in a helmet and some jammies.

He did not promise a train, he wrote a paper describing the Hyperloop and how it could function, but said he wasn't going to pursue it. The tunnels in Vegas were never going to be anything more than transportation tunnels for vehicles. The train concept preceded the tunnel concept by several years.

The robot announcement was not going to include a prototype from the beginning, at least from my recollection, and they followed it up a year later with a working prototype that actually walked using artificial vision, in contrast to Boston Dynamics robots that react to stimulus/are pre-programmed and/or piloted.
