Eliminate early voting and mail-ins (except military overseas etc) and make election day a national holiday. Get rid of something stupid like Columbus day or whatever and replace it with a day where everyone gets the whole day off to go vote in person, and have polls open form 6am-8pm nationwide

Make it harder to vote. If you're not willing/able to make it to a voting booth on Election Day, you shouldn't be voting with few exceptions.

This does just that, it eliminates early voting and mail-ins, and those lazy bums won't use a day off to vote lol

Making things more difficult is the prime example of systemic racism.

Biden voters and MSM have said repeatedly minorities cannot get off work, have transportation, have an ID, register to vote, or are able to keep from getting felonies.

Any restriction on voting immediately means racism.

You're not going to believe this but on election day in California, it rained.

And you wouldn't believe this but there were Black people voting at the same time as myself. In fact, there was a whole family that we used to play softball with about six places in line behind us.

Now there was no ID required of course (I first registered to vote in California with my work ID badge from Disney as my photo ID).

I feel like it's already pretty damn easy to vote.

In California, you can vote in person for 10 days prior to the election.

But if they'd get rid of the 100% unsolicited Mail in ballots that would be a good thing.

Early voting is great. Such an odd thing to be against.

Retired old dude with nothing better to do than post on a college football website's politics forum is willing to stand in line all day on a November Tuesday because he has nothing better to do.

Got it, so the message is, make Democracy harder for everyone. How about…better policies, candidates and casting a wider net to attract voters. Sounds like novel ideas to me.

Also full disclosure, I am a long term mail-in Texas voter.

If it becomes a holiday, then schools will be closed.

If the state isn't providing free childcare, people won't drag their kids out to stand in line for hours to vote.

It would adversely impact voting numbers for both sides.

any number of ways to do it better. people in charge want the ability to put their fingers on the scale. it's not left vs right, it's us vs them. the left are just the dumbasses that want to be governed harder.

While I don't agree with the original point, a lot of schools are polling places. And bc of Uvalde, now close down on Election Day.

I love being able to send in my ballot by mail! I don't have to keep going around a parking lot looking for a place to park and when I find one I don't get stopped a dozen times by some vulture wanting me to vote a certain way. Then having to stand in line like cattle to exercise my right to vote.

Can you imagine the lines if they took away early voting and made everyone vote on the same day? The logistics of staffing and equipping the sites would be crazy. Even if it as made a national holiday, many people still have to work and a lot of those on 12 hour shifts.

This is just another example of people on here throwing out half baked ideas and then others jumping on the band wagon.

It is not a half baked idea , it would make it much more time consuming to vote in Urban Areas. Making it hard to vote in Urban areas is the goal. Regarding exceptions if it were to happen in R controlled states the 65+ crowd would be included in the group that got to vote by mail.

Early voting period is one thing.
But the extended periods are ridiculous. You have a large percentage that has voted and then there are candidate debates. The extended periods also create a larger period of time that the poll have to be managed by poll workers etc.
I'm not sure what's next - early voting periods starting in the summer!

Agreed. Don't understand this objection to making Election Day a national holiday. List the ones we have already and see how expendable by comparison they are.

In isolation, one could even make an argument it discriminates against the working class and active middle class to have it on a work day. ("In isolation" refers to the fact that since there is early voting---this argument seems less true--- but OP mentioned eliminating that)

I thought that having rights preserved was the goal of the republicans, not having rights harder to have.

Columbus day? I thought every corporation already replaced that with MLK holiday for woke points?

Leave in person early voting.

Need a database with 2 factor or 5 factor verification, but every citizen should be able to login to ss.gov or similar and see their past voting record to confirm their vote was counted.

Purge the voter rolls.

Do like Texas, give people a whole month to vote. No mail in ballots except the military.

Hmm. Since no longer in the days of sail, if you give a month, does even the military need longer?

That might be the closest can get to a no confusing exceptions situation.
