Summary: Rosing is a senior at Kentucky, Kylah Spring is a freshman working the front desk at a dorm. Rosing goes out and gets drunk, comes back to the dorm and wants to come in the doors. Spring says she "didn't look like a resident so I wouldn't let her in." Rosing manages to get in and then Rosing wanders over to the elevators where Spring said she was 'talking to the elevator'. Spring says SOP when dealing with a drunk student is to call an RA to handle it. She apparently called an RA and then decided to restrain Rosing from going on the elevator.
Video taken at the time shows Spring wrestling/laughing while struggling with an obviously drunk Rosing. Police are called. When police arrive, Rosing is sitting in a corner spewing the n-word at some nearby girls. Rosing refused to give her name to the police, kicked an officer, and then bit him. She is arrested and charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and two counts of assault, one against the officer and one against King. Her parents paid $10k cash to bail her out. Her lawyer says she's embarrassed by what happened.
King puts out a video on tiktok describing the incident, then tearfully claims at a protest that she was the victim of a 'racial assault'. UK administration rush in to make a statement and show how woke they are, suspending Rosing indefinitely and blocking her from re-enrollment. Rosing had already decided to drop out for this semester.
Obviously, this is being made into a big deal on social media because the demand for racism outstrips the supply. One genius on imgur even said they should make Rosing as famous as the rapist Brock Turner (because the difference between racist and rapist is one letter, right? /s).
Spring is lucky she wasn't charged with second-degree unlawful imprisonment, because that is what her attempt restrain Rosing from going on the elevator is. She is also subject to assault charges herself if Rosing's lawyer pursues that. This is being ignored right now because UK is focusing on Rosing and her habit of spouting rap lyrics while drunk but this is incredibly poor policy. King has no legal right to touch or restrain Rosing, she isn't security or the police. Her attempt to restrain her is assault. King thinks she has some authority because she's a desk monitor and that belief turned her into a petty tyrant.
As for Rosing, people say stupid things when they're incredibly drunk. She was arrested and she went to jail. She'll face charges for assaulting the police officer. She owes the officer an apology. She's out of school and this notoriety will make enrolling elsewhere difficult. I think she should enroll somewhere and finish her degree. If getting sloshed like this is a habit, maybe she needs to be evaluated for treatment for alcoholism.
King spoke at a protest and some of her statements were laughable. She claimed Rosing 'didn't break her spirit', but you can clearly see she's been crying while reliving the 'horror' of the incident. Note, she is smiling/laughing while wrestling with Rosing in the video. Of course, now she's a victim and needs to play that up.
I don't think you win by expelling students from school for bring drunk and stupid and calling someone names because you lose the opportunity to educate someone, but that is where we're at today.
