I was on one forum where moderators had the ability to edit post counts. They would have little contests such as the first person to answer X gets 10,000 posts. They gave one guy 6 million.

Hmm I have just bought a website, and improbably enough celebrities from Cher to Taylor Swift to the Pope to Glenn Greenwald to Ted Cruz write content for this website, for free. I think my best move here is to tell these people they need to start paying me.

Not to mention, verification is not a service for the celebrities. It's a feature that makes the site usable for the average uninitiated person, allowing them to easily tell if an account claiming to be from a notable person or organization is genuine or not. When it just becomes anyone's guess whether an account is real the website becomes less usable for prospective users who might be interested in picking it up.

He is sweetening the pill by promising to share revenue with creators.

This will also give Twitter a revenue stream to reward content creators

ONE thing is clear - previous management had no real interest in changing ANYTHING about how Twitter operated (other than controlling speech) nor about how it would or would not make money. So many possibilities Musk could pursue going forward and I expect him to try out several different ones.

These opening round of comments from Elon aren't where it is going to end up. He's upsetting the applecart to see where the apples land. I expect any actual changes he makes in the end will be well reasoned and planned out.

Twitter should charge the users for promoted tweets. So many people would pay money to be the first smart ass comment under celebrity's tweet.

It really kind of is. And it is mainly due to social media.

The very last thing celebs needed was for us normies to find out enough about them to know that they are at least as screwed up as everyone else and in most cases waaaaaaaaaay more screwed up.

On top of that, social media gave relative unknowns a platform to gain some level of increased notoriety and so many celebs reacted to this my being more outlandish on their social media accounts without the benefit of the writers who normally put words in their mouths.

The result was immediate, spectacular, noticed.....and not at all good for them.

I keep trying to figure out if anyone can pay the $8 and get a blue check mark.

or is it just for already approved check marks?

Sounds like anybody can pay the $8. It's going to be like the star things with Texags. You pay to get a star and some additional features.
