Elon Musk Reportedly Wants Twitter Verified Users to Pay $20 per Month or Lose Their Blue Check Marks

This is a great move by Elon. The important people on Twitter will have to pay for their blue check mark just to keep Imposters from posting as them.

If everyone was blue checkless, anyone could claim to be someone. The blue check makes sure a persons name is actually them.

The people nobody cares about won't pay for a blue check because nobody gives a **** about them enough to impersonate.

Odd that more people would pay $15/mth than $10/mth. I would've expected willingness to pay to be more correlated with payment amount.

He's gonna get his money back out of Twitter. Laying off 75% of employees and properly monetizing avenues will have this thing well into the black and then he can IPO it again.

but there is a point being made to be able to confirm an account is "valid" without having to go elsewhere for confirmation.

Twitter's not saying you just pay $20, and get a blue check mark right? He's just saying, if you have one, you will now have to start paying if you want to keep...and if you want one...it is just one extra final step in getting verified?

These whiny losers seem to be convinced everyone with any alias will be able to get one for a monthly cost.

My guess is 1. Anyone will be able to buy one or 2. They will make an addition of something like a Green checkmark for the non rich and famous - for a cost.

When it was orginally added, it was for movie stars and other high profile personalities. The idea was you could confirm it was their actual account and not a bogus one. Made sense.

Since then, it's become a "status symbol" and implies some sort of credibility. With a blue checkmark, you are more credible than others. It's become a joke.

By making people pay for it, it's going back to its original intent.
