That was true at times in 1983 too. We have had situations where the brink was closer than any had a clue of, and the public was more or less mercifully unaware. Cuban Missile Crisis is the exception in that it was so well known as it was happening. Another echo is Andropov was ill in 1983 (he died in Feb 1984). One thing can hope for is that any direct Russia retaliation take the form of a more covert attack aimed at actual leadership and not the use of nukes. Its one way full disaster might be avoided if it gets that bad. And it has been Putin's pattern before.

But that said, is is not a trivial thing to wonder if the `reports' in question have any substance at all. Advisors opening use of nuclear force if not threatened seems a bit dubious --- there are probably elements in Russia more inclined if anything to do force a shut down. Some oligarchs have openly done so.

None really now, as not that ideologically bent as Soviet days. A few surviving while all else destroyed is not so much a fit for them.

What is kind of scary is it is a fit for the attitudes of much of the Western elite, as shown by the whole population decrease fetish, and other things. In other words -- the Western side may be more likely to accept nuclear this time around in the sense of not work super-hard to avoid it.

I listened to this today.

I'm not quite sure what's going on with this lady.

I don't have a negative opinion of her. I will say that.

I've listened to the episodes the past two times she's been on the show.

She sounds different in some measurable way.

She sounds spooked. She sounded extremely concerned.

Hard to get a read on her.

I don't know where she's going with this.

The highlight was when they were talking about the two party system and why you can't win as a third party candidate. Joe asked her if she would run as an independent and she said, no. Explained why it would be futile.

She didn't sound like she was going to join the republicans.

That may be what she does, but it didn't sound like it from what she was saying.

Who knows what she up to. Could be anything.

It would certainly be unprecedented, but your analysis of it never happening because it hasn't before doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Maybe you can clarify beyond conjecture of relative warhead sizes.

Rogan show is a pretty good litmus test.

I listened to it too. I don't know if she 'probably' thinks its going to end in WWIII. I think her point was that the military industrial complex has too much power to allow that concern(of WWIII) to affect our decision making. And the fact that the concern is hardly discussed is deeply concerning.

She has a point.

Not sure why some of you get so upset when another "conservative" talks about her without being completely dismissive and derogatory.

She would be infinitely better than the regime running our country. But b/c she doesn't agree with all your conservative policies, she's an enemy!

Ted Cruz will never be president. If we're lucky, Desantis could be the guy. But I'd take Tulsi over every Democrat in Washington right now and many Republicans. But I've actually listened to her on JRE multiple times and watched her campaign rallies. She seems more genuine than most.

But I'm also not a strict conservative. I have both conservative and liberal views.
