How do you have a real election in a war zone? I would imagine plenty of Ukrainians fled or were killed during the occupation. You the let who has left or who Russia has forcibly moved in since then vote?

I don't know how you have a believable election there after what has occurred.

A real tweet would've said something along the lines of "thanks for the support happy to discuss why we believe we should continue this war". Instead he came back with a childish response like we get from democrats or the resident liberals on this board, completely dishonest and lacking intelligence.

The proposed solution is immediately a nonstarter for both sides for different reasons, so it's probably as good a place as any to start.

On the other hand, if there was a simple path to a negotiated peace we wouldn't be where we are today. The situation seems intractable. I don't see how this ends until one side is defeated.

Yeah man the referendums where imported Russians, locals held at gunpoint, and more votes counted than people present are great indicators of a desire to be in the Russian Federation.

I think the Ukrainians felt insulted by the insinuation they should give up territories to Russia based on votes that at this point would only be corrupt, given how Russia has completely changed the demographics of the occupied territories. It would be a giveaway to Russia. That predictable and unacceptable outcome upset the Ukrainians, apparently.

I understand the intent is to encourage negotiation instead or fighting but I don't think the suggested tees could ever be acceptable for Ukrainians under the current conditions, because it basically secured a loss for them at a time they have started winning.

It's pretty clear that Elon isn't on anyone's side except peace and is concerned that there is no off ramp. The way this war is going it seems that one side or the other will not stop until they have total victory. The specifics of the terms are really not as relevant as the fact there is no effort at all to end the war and that is not only going to result in millions of dead both from fighting and more importantly taking 2 of the larger food, fertilizer, and energy countries offline indefinitely. Not to mention the endless money being spent and of course the very real risk of nuclear war.

Anything that could get a counter offer would imo be welcomed Musk Trump and a couple other people think they are the person that can get this ball rolling

Also IMO nothing happens til Putin is gone and the next regime decides that they need to negotiate

A worldwide global depression and / or WW III is on the menu of possible outcomes

I agree with this take 100%. It's good to have someone in the space talking about a negotiated end to hostilities. By definition it's going to be less than what both sides want.

I don't have a lot of hope for success down this path but at least he laid something out.
