The biggest sin in the oval office was committed by Trump every day of his presidency when he sat in the same chair as the exalted and righteous Barack Hussein Obama. I'll never forgive him for that. and mean tweets. and putting America first. and preventing foreign wars.

Despicable.

Trump: tossup between letting Baradar and 5000 Taliban out of prison and overall handling of COVID.

Bush: squandering swell of patriotism and global support for the US after 9/11 by invading Iraq.

Obama: tossup between tan suit and Dijon mustard.

Even on a thread like this you troll. Do you see a pattern with the other responses???? Criticism of both R's and D's in office. You? You can't do it.

Obama classified 3/4ton trucks as commercial vehicles for commercial fleets. This cause most Ag companies to change truck benefits to only include 1/2 tons.

I miss my F250 fleet truck.

in 2009 Obama signed into law, through that year's NDAA, the right of the federal government to deem any person or citizen a terrorist and suspend that person's constitutional rights indefinitely. This was never challenged in court and has been used on American citizens both at home and abroad.

Combine that with his murder of Anwar al-Awlaki, an American citizen, via drone strike in Yemen, and you have the single largest usurpation of individual rights in our history.

I do not condone any of the actions of Awlaki, he was a traitor, but what matters is the outcome.

This is still, to my knowledge, completely legal for the government even in the face of the 1st, 4th, and 5th amendments.

W Bush: "weapons of mass destruction" or bail outs
Obama: Obamacare or more bail outs
Trump: Allowing shutdowns, and bailouts for covid.

Bush41: "no new taxes", ADA, losing to Clinton
Clinton: Lewinski, housing idiocy, Hillary
Bush 43: PATRIOT Act, "Bush phones"
Obama: massive spending, DebacleCare
Trump: spending in 4 what Obama did in 8, anti-2A ban, not repealing DebacleCare (a leader would have been able to rein in idiots in the GOP)
Biden: 2021-now

Which brings us to Biden, but I don't have time to enumerate those failures.

Fellow TexAgs-ers, I was curious as to what you all believe to be the single most destructive* thing any of the last 6 presidents did during their time in office?

edited to add: To those who respond with actual examples, I use those responses with my classes. I usually word it like, "So I polled a few adults on this question and here is what they said." This helps the students see if their responses are in line with what others are saying, and how the students can see if age (living through the actual presidencies) alters what you think/believe/know about a topic.

In my high school, we were talking about the role of governments a few weeks ago, and the students were all discussing how different governments help and/or hurt their citizens. The students had some good arguments, however a lot of what they were discussing didn't directly affect them one way or another (their discovery).

So, I posed the following prompt to my high school students in Gov't and US History a couple of weeks ago and they have until Friday to formulate a CER (claim, evidence. & reasoning) for Joe Biden and the previous five former presidents. The rubric is a little more wordy, but I'll give you the Cliff's Notes version.

"Every President of the United States has had their great moments and their more forgettable moments. They have each overcome adversity and they have also failed miserably. In this quantitative research project, you will look back at the last six people who have served as President of the United States of America and research what was the single most destructive* thing happened during their presidency that they had complete or majority control over. You will need to identify that defining moment for each president, create a CER, and write a report explaining your cumulative thoughts on how the office of the presidency has negatively affected people."

Rubric:
Remember PEGS!
Written report with no less than 10 sections:
  • Your abstract
  • Opening paragraph
  • 6 body paragraphs (minimum - one for each president, but more are okay)
  • Discoveries (any "A-ha" moments)
  • Summary (any "I wonder" questions)

*for our reports, "destructive" means that the decision/executive order/stance/etc. by the sitting president had a lasting negative effect over a substantial percentage of the population.

Biden: Using the DOJ to persecute political enemies.

Trump: Not reigning in the federal workers who conspired to slow and disrupt his agenda and trusting Fauci and Birx at the beginning of COVID.

Obama: Forcing Obamacare on the American people and increasing the cost of healthcare for everyone.

W Bush: Creating, along with the GOP controlled congress, the DHS and pushing through the Patriot Act which is being used by the Biden admin today to go after Americans.

Clinton: The Blackhawk down mess OR Appointing Ruth Bader Ginsberg of the ACLU to the SCOTUS.

Bush: Raising income taxes after saying he would not, effectively, throwing the 1992 election to Clinton.

If your lifetime is referring to Clinton, Bush, Obama and Trump, congress changed hands during the presidency and is more likely to have caused the conditions to which you reference. I truly hope the cycle continues in 2022, for all our sakes.

Nothing else comes close -- Obama weaponizing the federal bureaucracy to go after political opponents. The IRS against conservative not-for-profits, and then the FBI/DOJ/etc. against DJT. I currently have zero faith or trust in a single federal agency.

Reagan- Gun control and amnesty
Bush 41- Raised taxes, thus ensuring Clinton
Clinton- Didn't take out Osama when he had the chance (Republican Congress kept him in check on domestic issues)
Bush 43- Creating DHS/TSA
Obama- Impossible to list just 1 thing because there are countless things he did, all equality bad for their own reasons
Trump- Spent money like a drunken sailor
Biden- See Obama
This is my list. Was thinking I'd add Patriot Act to Bush 43.

I can't really fault Bush 43 on the handling of the Iraq war, given that all Presidents since Korea have failed in such military actions. I'd even lump Bush 41 in there - yeah, he handled the war fine by bringing together the coalition, but should have finished the entire thing by going into Baghdad rather than leaving Saddam in place for his son to deal with a decade later.

  • Bush 41 - not being prepared for the collapse of the Eastern Bloc
  • Clinton - Missile Strikes as a diversion to Monica / Somalia / dare we include letting Osama bin Laden go after Kenya + Tanzania?
  • Bush 43 - No WMDs / Iraq invasion / Rumsfeld - Shock and Awe / TARP
  • Obama - Obamacare / Cash for Clunkers / Obamaphones
  • Trump - COVID over reaction / not letting the government remain shutdown
  • Biden - COVID insanity continued / AFG withdrawal / you know, the thing
