There's a chance that when they turned up missing at an arsenal, they'd eventually be tracked down. I'm not sure they'd find the final destination but if they did and they hadn't been reported, ugh…

This. Even if the "mistake" is discovered, it would be "buried" and paperwork lost for it will mean that people will at least lose their jobs as best or worse, be prosecuted.

They should have kept their mouth shut for now, they will be under scrutiny of the FBI, DEA, BTF, and even the DoD and may lose their permit to purchase military surplus.

I remember Camp Pendleton being shut down for one lost M-16. Can't imagine how 12 gets misplaced.

Knowing the fine folks running this admin these days, they were probably destined for someone intentionally. Either they wanted to set someone up for having them, or they wanted someone to have them for "other" reasons.

Same at Ft Hood. One lost M16 on an FTX and they shut down maneuver area until the battalion did a shakedown and walkthrough of the entire area. They couldn't come back in until it was found.

Found "12" M-16's…..yup that's what I'd say when I found 13 also

I'm willing to bet that couple will never get their stuff back at their storage unit or get reimbursed for it. Also wouldn't be surprised the FBI convinces a judge to order the couple to shut down their side business "temporarily" until they resolve the problem meaning never.

Moral of the story, keep your mouth shut. Damn atf and federal government will get a search warrant on you for doing the right thing.

They may end up with the IRS. They will need them to counter the irate taxpayer.
