I'll never understand why these institutions and organizations immediately take responsibility for the actions of one individual.

People act appalling all the time. People often do things that don't represent an organization's "values." Heck, people in leadership often act against organizational values; why is it so disappointing that some dumb 19-year-old -- who was probably drunk -- did?

Ignore it and move on. It was one person. You don't have to condone the actions, but you don't have to publicly flog yourself over them, either.
