Leftist don't give a **** about migrants. They only want them in the country to change the demographics.
That may be true of some, but I think for the vast majority of leftists it's less about long-term political strategy, and more about wanting to feel like they are the sensitive, caring, accepting people they believe themselves to be without having to accept the harsh realities of actually having to share resources and care about those for whom they claim to have concern. These are folks for whom the "for just a $1.13 a day you can feed a starving child" amount of effort is still too much, mostly because no one in their circle will really know or care about such minor effort, so they value it less than they do the tribalism associated with leftism.
It's nothing to put on a pink hat, add some trending frame to one's profile picture on social media, and maybe even spend an occasional Saturday morning downtown with a bunch of other like-minded folks who also think they are "doing something" by showing up to these events, but not showing up where it counts, like at churches where truly well-meaning people are consistently devoting time and effort to gathering food, finding shelter, and attending to the actual needs of asylum seekers, like helping them navigate the system to legitimately claim they are seeking legal status, and not here for some nefarious end.
