From a cultural perspective, they keep finding Viking settlements under areas previously covered by glaciers. So while the downside is global warming, the bright side is we're learning how people lived a few hundred years ago.
Wait a minute... how did the Vikings get their settlements under the glaciers if it hasn't been warmer in the very recent past? Do the Vikings have some advanced tunneling technology that I'm not aware of?
The Earth was quite a bit warmer 5,000 to 10,000 years ago. I think that sea level was something like 7 feet higher.
The result?
The Sahara desert was green. The Gobi Desert was forested. And Northern Mexico was decidedly wetter as well.
Prior to the start of the "Little Ice Age", the Ansazi people had a flourishing culture in the desert southwest. With the cooling of the "Little Ice Age", the area dried up and they had to move away to other areas to try to sustain their life.
A cooler climate means starvation. It means people suffering. A warmer climate, on the other hand, permits the Earth to provide for the sustenance of many more people.
We are where we are today from Global Warming. Global Cooling risks all that.
