Reviewing new graduate resumes (woke)

I'm on the recruiting and interviewing team for my company and have seen glaring examples of wokeness that drive me crazy.

Issue #1
Our interview slate is not representative of the scientific graduate population at all. On average less than 20% of the interview candidates are caucasian, and less than 10% are male caucasian. Overall, ~60% are female of any ethnicity.

Issue #2
Nearly every resume I have seen emphasizes the hell out of diversity and inclusion activities. A couple of candidates that made the "must interview" list had resumes where over half of the content was diversity crap. Why should a science company care about that for technical roles?

Anyone else plagued with foolishness like this at work? I fear it's only going to get worse.

Our company has employee surveys coming up soon and of course DEI is a huge topic. We got an email earlier this week stating that if our locations have poor DEI results, it is management's fault and we are not doing enough to increase our DEI stats. I cussed under my breath and moved on. It is ridiculous.

Hell, I'll name names.

I used to work at Intel. I'd go to recruiting events at TAMU and the HR from Arizona would coach us to put on the back of each resume if it applied: T F U.

T - Technical
F - Female
U - Under-represented minority

If the candidate matched all three, then they were moved to the head of the line for internships and interviews. They didn't have to go through much of a screening process.

Years later we'd have a hiring event for URM and managers could offer jobs on the spot without having the normal 6 person panel. They'd just be extended an offer after a 10-15 minute chat w/ zero technical scrutiny.

When it came time for reviews/promotions, managers would tell me that, in the event of an under-performing URM employee, corporate HR would come from the sideline and either give bonuses or promote from a budget that wasn't part of the team allotment. Now look @ why Intel has floundered for the last 10 years.

They are more worried about being PC (pun intended) for the last decade than they are being the best at what they do. This is how one large part of America would like to be.... mind boggling.

Even if a candidate doesn't believe in that crap it's to their benefit to put it on their resume. OP said it himself. His HR group actively seeks those resumes out.

I am at a complete loss of why the markets tanked today.

If companies are so focused on DEI, ESG, and other woke idiocy, they obviously don't give a damn about profitability for their investors. So what if borrowing becomes more expensive? Profits and making money for investors is so last century. Today it's all about meeting some sort of bogus wokeness threshold. Fiduciary responsibility for stakeholders no longer seems to be an important roll of BOD's and management.

It's a problem when multiple companies are trying to hire a larger percentage of females/minorities than are available. Good for the interviewee, companies fight for you. Bad for companies, because once the pool of quality candidates runs dry, they hire the dregs to meet quotas.

It's not strange for someone, especially if they are an engineer, to wonder why the 20% group in Engineering and Technology would represent 60% of the resumes they see.

Yup. This is the hiring stuff older generations doing the hiring value. This is like the old folks who blame kids for participation trophies they created. This is the world boomers created.

Went to a vendor conference pre pandemic


Things had changed with the product line in an architectural sense. Met a gal who successfully implemented the new architecture,

I was like cool, I'll definitely give you a call in a few weeks to pick your brain.

Last day of the conference is the firing line where they ask you to critique the company and the event.

Gal stood up and asked "What is your company doing to promote women in this industry"


I was soooooo disappointed, threw her card away and never called her.

Why is it a companies job to recruit or motivate people that aren't already motivated to enter the field. No one sent me an invitation, I don't get it. Wasted money and effort in my opinion.

For clarity,

I get to see mental health throughout the state.

I have heard, amazingly, hiring practices that very much sound discriminatory

while also getting to see the quality of services.

Again, throughout the entire state.
