The button 'got it'. Haha.

How about '**** you!'

I can sync my thermostats to our wifi and download an app. But nope!

I can't wait for California to start cutting off power from all the betas charging their teslas. And instead of being mad at Newsom they'll just ree more at republicans for still driving gas powered vehicles.

Again. These idiots opted in for this knowingly to get a discount on their bills.

It's not a secret.

What's funny is they really aren't receiving a discount on their rate. They are having their AC adjusted thus just not consuming same power.

They should learn the low voltage wiring at their tstat. You can bypass their control with a wire nut and tying 2 wires together to make the AC come on.

Was scoffed at on numerous home automation Nerdery threads about this eventual outcome in years past. Now here we are.

And I say that as someone who has one Ecobee thermostat in our home and a minimum level of automation for security. It's a slick device and is convenient. I do not allow it to opt into these programs. The day they default it the other way I will remove it.

Refuse to allow any robots into our house though.

I'll bet they ignored the fine print in all the arcane documents they signed. Bypassing the wiring is probably a state crime.

I saw my first presentation on the Smart House at least 10 years ago. My first thought was the utility company managing which appliances you can run and adjusting your thermostat.

I look at electric cars today and think the same thing. The government will control how fast you can drive, where you can drive, and if you can drive at all some days.

Absolutely they will. They've already said they are going to.

Forgive my constant beating of this horse but I will share it again: they already signed into law that we will all be required to blow into a breathalyzer every time we get into our cars and that there will be AI scanning your face that will be able to shut down your car if it doesn't like what it sees.

This was passed in the Infrastructure Bill. We will be living in a police state inside of a decade.

It shouldn't be hard to unenroll from the program too. I have nest thermostats but quit the coserv program after a few months a few years ago because it was just damn annoying how many 'energy rush hours' they wind up having. I'd think you could always disconnect it from wifi etc. too.

This is why Im so skeptical of "smart houses" and anything that is not inherently analog. An electric car could be easily controlled by the gov, and ice manual car cannot- which is why you see the ev movement being pushed. Also, the new alexa or google home is just a ploy for more control over your life. Most people see these new items as luxury, I see it as a way to subdue the masses. Control control control.

Even if you have enough solar panels on your home to offset 100% of your demand they aren't going to let you use what you paid to harvest.

Thanks suckers.

At least spend the extra $100 to get a programmable thermostat so you can set the a/c higher automatically when you're away. It's not 1980.

Anyone in CO that signed up for this to save $100 upfront and $25 per year is an idiot in my opinion but it was their choice. I thought we liked choice and caveat emptor on this board.

PS. This isn't a new concept. I had a similar program in MN in the early 90s that I signed up for. The difference was it was a 33% savings and they only shutoff my A/C for a max 20 minutes every hour.

This is just a start.

In 30 years cash will be no more. Everything will pass through some digital clearing house or CC. The govt will be able to cut off any purchase/sale they don't agree with.

Dude, we will be on a digital CBDC within 5-10 years. Cash will be dead outside of a black market long before 30 years.

I used a NEST thermostat in our old house. When we built our new house I opted for a stock thermostat with no WiFi for this reason. Friends told me to take off my tinfoil hat.

Learn how to re-wire analog thermostats to AC's.

Another important survival skill needed in the Biden-Newsom era.

Yup. Their decision, their problem.

Problem the same people who said they were preyed on by their student loans.
