Was scoffed at on numerous home automation Nerdery threads about this eventual outcome in years past. Now here we are.
And I say that as someone who has one Ecobee thermostat in our home and a minimum level of automation for security. It's a slick device and is convenient. I do not allow it to opt into these programs. The day they default it the other way I will remove it.
Refuse to allow any robots into our house though.
I saw my first presentation on the Smart House at least 10 years ago. My first thought was the utility company managing which appliances you can run and adjusting your thermostat.
I look at electric cars today and think the same thing. The government will control how fast you can drive, where you can drive, and if you can drive at all some days.
Absolutely they will. They've already said they are going to.
Forgive my constant beating of this horse but I will share it again: they already signed into law that we will all be required to blow into a breathalyzer every time we get into our cars and that there will be AI scanning your face that will be able to shut down your car if it doesn't like what it sees.
This was passed in the Infrastructure Bill. We will be living in a police state inside of a decade.
